Former Contestant Of Popular Variety Show Sentenced To 2 Million Won In Fines For Fraud Charges
It has been reported that K, a former contestant from Channel A’s variety show Heart Signal 1, was sentenced to a 2 million won [around $1500] fine for fraud charges.
According to Sports Kyunghyang on the 3rd of October, the court finalized a fine of 2 million won for K on the 28th of last month.
Previously, the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office (Chief Prosecutor Joo Young Sun) issued a summary indictment with a fine of 1 million won to K on June 27.
According to the report, victim A transferred 1.8 million won to K in August of last year after K offered to help purchase a cheap plane ticket to Europe. However, A never received the ticket, even by the day before the trip, and had to purchase another one at additional cost. It was reported that A first met K on September 1, 2017, the final broadcast date of Heart Signal 1.
A had asked K to compensate for the financial damages, but K delayed and only returned part of the money. In an interview with the media, A said, “I trusted K’s image from the show and didn’t think someone who is publicly known would commit fraud,” adding that they hope such incidents do not happen to others.
