MAMA is one of Asia’s biggest music awards ceremony.

Each year, the best of the best Korean acts gather to perform in the award ceremony.

2017 MAMA awards are held in three venues this year. In the second ceremony (In Japan) which was held on November 29, many awards were presented to various top Korean acts.

The awards show is presented by Qoo10, the award ceremony was held at the Yokohama Arena in Japan!

Here is the full list of the Winners:

Best New Female Artist

PRISTIN

My reaction: well! I haven’t checked out any rookie girl groups in 2017, but my favorite had to be the co-ed group KARD. I wished that they’d receive an award, but I know since they’re co-ed they probably won’t! congrats to PRISTEN!

At least, this year, the best new female artist award didn’t go to one of the top three agencies. Diversity~~~

Best New Male Artist

Wanna One

https://www.jazminemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/2017-Mnet-Asia-Music-Awards-MAMA-Winners-In-Japan.jpg

My reaction: kinda saw that one coming. Wanna One is one of the most successful 2017 Kpop groups. Following Produce 101 season 2, the group debuted and made a splash.

The group often held the top spots in brand reputation rankings. Usually, the 11 members would be in the top 20 spots each month after they debuted.

Did they deserve this award? They worked hard, very hard, but so did many other groups. I just feel like this award, or rookie awards should not only be given to one act.

But since they were one of the biggest groups this year, of course they were gonna win!

Best Asian Style in Japan

EXO-CBX

https://www.jazminemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/2017-Mnet-Asia-Music-Awards-MAMA-Winners-In-Japan.jpg

My reaction: EXO are known to be one of the best dressed male groups in all of Kpop, so… I guess they deserved it!

Inspired Achievement

Akimoto Yasushi

Best of Next

Chungha

My reaction: Chungha is hella talented, she earned it!

 Best Dance Performance Female Group

TWICE’s “Signal”

https://www.jazminemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/2017-Mnet-Asia-Music-Awards-MAMA-Winners-In-Japan.jpg

My reaction: onto the controversial part of the awards!

“Signal” in my humble opinion as a JYP stan one of TWICE’s worst songs to date.

“Likey” was okay, but “Signal” was just…. way below expectations, even the girls themselves said they were afraid it wouldn’t be liked by the public!

I can think of at least other 6 or 7 acts who actually deserved this award. This doesn’t mean I hate the cute group, but if we’re talking about dance performances, there is many HUGE names we can choose of, and we’d only be skimming the top.

Don’t get me wrong, I never said they couldn’t dance, another group deserved the award that’s for sure!

Best Concert Performer

MONSTA X

https://www.jazminemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/2017-Mnet-Asia-Music-Awards-MAMA-Winners-In-Japan.jpg

My Reaction: I am just glad that MONSTA X actually won something, thank goodness!

Discovery of the Year

NU’EST W

My Reaction: Im gonna cry, as a fan of the group I am so happy that they went from zero to winning something at the MAMA awards.

So grateful to all those who supported them when they weren’t popular and to those who joined the fandom and supported our boys, out of this list, this is by far the most heartwarming win for a group,

Congrats to the group that managed to rise from the dead after fighting for so long!

what the hell is up with his hair?

My Reaction: I am a BLOCK B huge fan, and I wanna rant a bit here!

Why the hell was Zico performing alone? Where the fuck is his group?

Do you know how pissed I was when I found out that BLOCK B wasn’t pefroming?

Not only underrated internationally and nationally. The group is outcasted from award shows. Last year 2016, they didn’t do anything and Zico promoted on his own!

This year, they came back with a bop song and yet no one invites them to an award, they passed the nomination time but they deserved to perform, why aren’t they there?

Why is Zico on his own?

Also some people think that Gdragon deserved this award. In my opinion, it depends on your taste, but one thing  is for sure, Zico is good enough to be on the level of Gdragon.

His 2017 tracks were all hits, so were Gdragon, some will say that its because YG is boycotting the show he won it, please people… he worked his ass off for it! Lets make that clear!

Don’t undermine his efforts just because a bigger name which was nominated should’ve automatically won.

This is not me defending him as a fan but as a logical person. In some categories I can understand why people would be so mad, but here with Zico’s case, its different.

They’re both so talented and so different!

Best Dance Performance Male Group

SEVENTEEN

https://www.jazminemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/2017-Mnet-Asia-Music-Awards-MAMA-Winners-In-Japan.jpg

My Reaction: but why?

I am not a hater, but is BTS being thrown aside or something?

This is coming from someone who’s not a fan of the group!

SEVENTEEN has some good choreographies but shouldn’t EXO or BTS or MONSTA X win this?

If we’re talking about complicated dance routines, SHINee is also a choice! Where are they?

Its not that SEVENTEEN is not talented, but its that I am shocked that they won, their dance routines are not as grand or impressive as other groups I mentioned above!

Qoo10’s Song of the Year

TWICE’s “Signal”

https://www.jazminemedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/2017-Mnet-Asia-Music-Awards-MAMA-Winners-In-Japan.jpg

My Reaction: but why? (again!)

This is the category that made BTS and EXO fans wanna boycott MAMA.

I mean…. I just… I don’t know guys!

“Signal” is by far one of 2017 most overrated Kpop songs… why?

Forget EXO and BTS. So many other worthy songs could’ve won!

Why?

My overall reaction

I understand your frustration guys.

I am not mad about any group’s win mainly because I don’t stan or hate any of the winners. I was only extremely upset that BLOCK B didn’t get to perform.

Boycotting is not going to do anything! Its just an award show.

Its one of Korea’s biggest but its still not the ultimate indication of whether your group is a success of a failure.

I know that BLOCK B is  hella talented and amazing. I am upset they never got to perform or be nominated but this doesn’t mean that I spew too much hate towards the event organizers.

This remains subjective to people’s taste and opinion. Those who chose the winners believed they earned it!

Calm down everyone, your group not winning an award doesn’t mean they sucked! In your eyes they’ll always be best![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
