Choi Jong Hoon, a former member of FT Island who was sentenced to prison for group sexual assault, is showing signs of returning to activities in Japan after 5 years. However, public opinion remains cold towards his comeback, which comes 2 years and 2 months after his release.
Recently, a Choi Jong Hoon channel has been launched on FANICON, Japan’s largest fan community platform. FANICON is a fan community channel where fans can interact with celebrities, and it requires a subscription fee of 5,000 won to access.
In an introductory message, Choi Jong Hoon greeted his fans by saying, “I greet you all after about 5 years. I was able to show this healthy appearance thanks to the strength I received from each and every one of your messages. I am truly grateful.”
He continued, “I want to show you everything I want to do in the future, as well as my personal life. I will make an effort to create a bright future with all of you, so please support me. Thank you in advance.”
Meanwhile, Choi Jong Hoon was indicted in January 2016 for group sexual assault and illegal filming of a woman who was intoxicated in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, and in March of the same year in Daegu, along with other members of the so-called “Jung Joon-young chatroom.”
Afterwards, Choi Jong Hoon was imprisoned in May 2019 for violating the Act on the Punishment of Violence Crimes (special rape) and served a sentence of 2 years and 6 months. He was released in November 2021 after completing his sentence. In January of the following year, his whereabouts attending church were revealed through his YouTube channel.
