BTS might be skipping this year’s billboard music awards.

On May 9, various Korean news outlets began to report that BTS will not be attending the 2022 Billboard Music Awards despite receiving seven nominations at the award show.

Quoting multiple industry officials, BTS has decided not to attend the award show which will be held on May 15 [local time].

But why is BTS skipping the 2022 Billboard Music Awards?

According to industry officials, the reason is their upcoming comeback. Despite being considered one of the top three awards in the U.S. music industry, along with the American Music Awards and the Grammy Awards, BTS has decided not to attend to focus on their upcoming album.

BTS has received a total of seven nominations at the upcoming award show including: Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Billboard Global (Excl. US) Artist, Top Selling Song – “Butter”, Top Selling Song – “Permission to Dance”, Top Billboard Global (Excl. US) Song – “Butter” and Top Rock Song award with “My Universe,” BTS’s collaboration with Coldplay.

BTS is expected to convey their acceptance speech via a video message if they win.

BTS’s upcoming album “Proof” is scheduled to be released on June 10.

Big Hit Music has not commented on the report or confirmed the speculations.
