August 14 is a great day for BTS and army, it’s a day filled with accomplishments that are astonishing and huge for not only the group but South Korean music scene as a whole.
BTS’s “Fake Love” is now officially certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
RIAA had updated its website to show that BTS’s “Fake Love” has received the gold certification, the title track from their latest album “Love Yourself: Tear.”
The song has passed the 500,000 ‘units’ in sale and thus received the gold certification. The ‘unit’ used in the calculation is based on this criteria: a single permanent digital download is considered one unit, while 150 on-demand audio/video streams counts as one unit.
BTS has already been certified gold by the RIAA twice, for their tracks “MIC Drop” and “DNA.” PSY held the record of becoming the first Korean act to receive a certification from the RIAA with “Gangnam Style,” while BTS become the first Kpop group to earn that title.
This makes BTS not only the only Kpop group with 3 gold certifications but the only Korean act with 3 gold certifications from the RIAA.
The group had also previously shattered a worldwide held record by Justin Bieber, the group has held the “Social 50” chart for 57 consecutive weeks. They became the artist with the most consecutive weeks on “Social 50.”
Congratulations to BTS! I can’t wait to hear your newest release coming on August 24.
