BTS’s Jin has been discharged from the military and has since held a live broadcast to interact with fans!

On June 12, Jin wrapped up his military service activities and has met with his fellow BTS members upon his discharge. After his discharge, he held a live broadcast via Weverse to talk to fans.

During the broadcast, he brought up the free hug event idea and the subsequent backlash HYBE received because of it.

Recently, HYBE announced that Jin will hold a hug event upon his military discharge and the event will be held on June 13. HYBE received backlash for this event for several reasons, the 1st being how the initial criteria were that fans would have to purchase as many albums as possible within the period of June 2 to June 6.

Fans were against this because despite the fact that its technically a free event, fans say HYBE is attempting to boost album sales and profit from this event. In addition, it does not count those who have bought albums before. Not to mention the environmental impact of purchasing a lot of albums too. Upon the initial backlash, HYBE said it would come up with an alternative method asap and apologized to fans in an official statement.

In the live broadcast Jin said, “I came up with the idea but it received lots of criticism. Originally, I brought up the initial proposal myself and insisted on proceeding alone with it. Initially, they didn’t agree to the hug event.”

He then added that the staff members were concerned about his well-being but he insisted on the hug event for a month and they kept negotiating how many should attend the event, eventually, he was persuaded by the company to make some adjustments to it, they agreed to hold it indoors and with a selected number of fans.

Jin added, “the staff was concerned many would gather and some might get hurt. However, I insisted on doing the free hug event… The company opposed it so I mentioned 2000, but that was difficult so we agreed on 1000.”

Jin also touched on the entry method being albums purchased and said, “there was a reason, but I did not pay enough attention. I apologize.” He bowed his head in apology.
