On December 7, BTS fans got one of the things they have been wishing for a very long time, BTS album “Love Yourself: Tear” received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Recording Package category.
This is a huge milestone not only for BTS but for Kpop in general. Fans were extremely happy with the news, however, there has been a miss-conception going on the internet.
BTS are the first Kpop group to receive a Grammy nomination but not the first Korean act to do so, so I thought it would be a good idea to talk about the Korean soprano that honored her country when she was nominated and received a Grammy award.
Jo Sumi is a South Korean lyric coloratura soprano who took home the first EVER Grammy award for her country.
She won a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording (conducted by Sir Georg Solti, Deca label) back in 1993. She is extremely popular and known for her interpretations of the bel canto repertoire.
BTS has only recently started actively promoting in American with Korean songs (mostly) and it is such a huge step in the right direction.
Congrats to BTS and HuskyFox (the company behind the art of the album) for receiving a nomination!
The best is yet to come~
