BLACKPINK has made history again by succeeding in achieving a double million seller for the first time and this is the first time for a K-pop girl group.
According to the Circle Chart (formerly Gaon Chart) run by the Korea Music Contents Association on September 22, BLACKPINK’s second full-length album “BORN PINK”, which was released on September 16, recorded sales of about 2,141,281 copies, ranking first in the 38th week (September 11-17).
BLACKPINK, the first K-pop girl group to sell 1 million copies on the day of the album release (based on the Hanteo Chart), also recorded more than 2 million copies for the first time for a K-pop girl group.
This number is reflected by the sum of exports to North America and Europe and domestic sales for a day and a half.
YG said, “Considering that the first week’s records are not all reflected and the biggest world tour in K-pop female artists’ history is set to be held, the final sales volume is expected to increase further.” The final initial record is expected to take the lead and even challenge the boy groups.
This achievement of BLACKPINK was foreseen early on since the pre-orders surpassed 2 million during the pre-order period alone.
BLACKPINK is certain to top the Billboard main album chart “Billboard 200,” which will be released early next week. It is also predicted that it could top the UK’s official album chart, which will be released on September 24. Previously, on the two charts, BLACKPINK ranked second in both rankings with their first full-length album “The Album” in 2020.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s “Born Pink” topped the iTunes album chart in 60 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, and 64 countries on the Apple Music album chart. The title track “Shutdown” has been at the top on Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform, for five consecutive days.
In addition, the “Shutdown” music video surpassed 100 million views in about five days and three hours, joining the 34th 100 million-viewed video. Choreography videos are no less popular than this. They exceeded 10 million views in half a day, and on September 20, beating the official music video and topped the list of “the most viewed videos in 24 hours on YouTube.” This is why some predict that the choreography video will surpass the official music video views like “How You Like That (HYLT).”
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will hold a world tour “Born Pink” at the KSPO DOME (KSPO DOME, Gymnastics Stadium) in Seoul Olympic Park from October 15 to October 16. Since then, they have met global fans in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. The group will attract a total of 1.5 million viewers, the largest number in the history of the K-pop girl group.
