Big Hit Music Heavily Criticized For Conveying Misinformation About BTS Suga’s DUI Incident, Issues Apology And Several Corrections
Big Hit Music has come under fire for its original 1st statement addressing BTS Suga’s recent DUI incident!
On August 7, the police revealed Suga was booked for riding an electric scooter while drunk. In both of Suga and Big Hit statements, they alleged Suga had used an electric kickboard which is different from an electric scooter with the latter being a more serious one, and police clarified it was indeed an electric scooter. Not only that, in both Suga and Big Hit apologies, they allege the case has been wrapped up and it was proven not to be the case with police stating to media outlets they were still investigating.
Due to this and the many misinformation the netizens found in both of their statements, Big Hit music ended up issuing a 2nd apology clarifying certain statements they’ve made, read their apology:
Hello, This is Big Hit Music.
We would like to provide additional information regarding BTS member Suga. Firstly, we deeply apologize for causing disappointment due to this unfortunate incident. We also apologize for the confusion caused by our hasty initial statement without thoroughly examining all circumstances.
- Regarding the Use of the Term “Electric Scooter” We initially described the product used by the artist as an “electric scooter” because it had a saddle. During further review, we realized that the classification of the product could change based on its performance and specifications, which could also affect the scope of responsibility in the accident. We want to clarify that there was no intention to downplay the issue. We apologize once again for our hasty communication and will fully comply with the responsibilities determined by the investigative authorities regarding the classification of the product.
- Regarding the Imposition of Penalty and License Revocation On the 6th, the artist complied with the police’s breathalyzer test on-site and was sent home immediately after. Both the company and the artist mistakenly believed the matter was resolved without recognizing that further procedures were pending. We apologize for the miscommunication and the dissemination of incorrect information considering the seriousness of the matter.
Most importantly, we sincerely apologize for causing an unfortunate incident during the period of fulfilling military duty, failing to maintain exemplary behavior. We deeply regret disappointing our fans.
We will cooperate sincerely with the police’s further investigations and humbly accept the results.
