37-Year-Old Korean Singer Jo Min-Woong Suddenly Passes Away
Opera singer Jo Min-woong, who appeared on JTBC’s ‘Phantom Singer 2’, suddenly passed away at the age of 37.
Jo Min-woong’s official fan cafe announced the news of his death on the 6th of July. It was reported that he collapsed from cardiac arrest while alone at his home on the 29th of last month and was found dead.
The cafe’s management said, “We are delivering the sad news that our eternal star, Jo Min-woong, has passed away. He was alone at home and passed away from cardiac arrest. His mother found him later and performed his last rites.”
They also stated that the funeral is currently being held at a temple.
Just 20 days ago, on the 9th of last month, Jo Min-woong had appeared on KBS2’s ‘Open Concert’, so his sudden death has shocked his acquaintances and friends.
Fellow singers have also posted pictures of themselves with the deceased on their personal accounts to mourn. Classical singer Kwon Seo-kyung wrote, “My beloved Min-woongie hyung, who I really liked and always supported. It’s so painful that I can’t calm my mind due to the shock. Hyung, please freely make music in the sky. May he rest in peace.”
Born in 1987, Jo Min-woong graduated from Seoul Performing Arts High School and Yonsei University’s Department of Voice, and gained recognition as a promising opera singer by winning first place at the Haydn International Competition. In 2017, he appeared on JTBC’s ‘Phantom Singer 2’, gaining fame among the public. Recently, he sang on KBS2’s ‘Open Concert’.
