The 2022 Genie Music Awards will cancel the Red Carpet ceremony in light of the national mourning period for Itaewon’s tragedy.
On November 4, the 2022 Genie Music Awards said,
“The red carpet ceremony and the onsite coverage of the awards ceremony held at Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon at 7 p.m. on November 8 have been canceled. Genie Music decided to hold the award ceremony in a calm and quiet atmosphere as much as possible to convey our condolences. We will reduce the scale of the award ceremony to a minimum to order to keep the promise with countless fans who have been waiting for the Genie Music Awards offline ceremony for the first time in three years. We pray for the peace of those who died in the unfortunate accident and express our deep condolences to the bereaved families.”
Meanwhile, a massive crowd crush accident took place in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on October 29. Accordingly, the government declared a national mourning period from October 30 to November 5.
