Min Woo Hyuk is a married man; many fans were surprised to hear this. He’s married to Lee Semi, a former idol. They got married in 2012.

The actor met his wife after his discharge from the military, he met his current wife through a friend’s introduction. At her recommendation, he tried out musical acting and became popular through it.

Min Woo Hyuk and his wife have two kids, a son born in 2015 and a daughter born in 2020.

Min Woo Hyuk’s wife Lee Semi debuted a member of girls group LPG. After getting married in 2012, she left the industry in 2013 but returned later to host shows and such. It was satisfying to see that the character we intended to portray in the drama was well-represented My wife’s friends and acquaintances often say, ‘Living with someone like Roy must be great.’ In response, my wife jokingly says, ‘Roy is my husband, not the Roy from the drama.'”

Min Woo Hyuk also shared his thoughts on the ending of “Doctor Cha,” where Roy Kim’s love line with Cha Jung-sook did not develop, and Cha Jung-sook suggested that Roy Kim should meet a wonderful woman.

He laughed and said, “I felt a bit disappointed. The director also completed the final editing of the 16th episode and said he felt that Roy’s character was too regretful. I also thought it would be nice if Roy remained friends with Cha Jung-sook or if he returned to the United States and met his foster parents, who raised him more like real family than his biological family when he was young. But then Jung-sook suggested to Roy to meet another woman who would be suitable for him, and Roy also listens to her. In fact, I tried not to shoot that scene. Haha.”

The actor also had nothing but praise for the fellow senior actors involved in the production and said they felt like family when working together.

Min Woo Hyuk’s past as a baseball player and why he had to quit  

In a recent interview, Min Woo Hyuk also mentioned his brief experience as a registered player for the LG Twins in professional baseball in the past. He even sang the national anthem on the mound during the KBO League Korean Series, showing his connection to baseball.

He said, “I received offers for ceremonial first pitches in the past, but it has been 10 years since I played baseball, and I have hardly touched a baseball. If I were to throw the ceremonial first pitch, I would like to practice for about a month before stepping on the mound.”

He also smiled and commented on LG Twins’ current success in the league, saying, “I’m glad they are doing well. I think LG and Doosan should be good at baseball in Seoul.”

Min Woo Hyuk was scouted by the LG Twins based on his performance in his first year of high school, and he continued to prepare as a player, even gaining weight. However, he eventually suffered an ankle ligament injury and decided not to pursue a career as a player.

He contemplated becoming a physical education teacher instead. He said, “Back then, there was a band club at school, and since the practice area was close to where I trained, I used to hum along to the music that came through while batting practice. I wanted to become a singer to the point where I would have participated if ‘Superstar K’ had been broadcasted at that time.”

Min Woo Hyuk has quite the turbulent career in singing before he transitioned into musicals.

The actor had a difficult childhood due to unfavorable family circumstances. After retiring from baseball due to an injury, he was cast in a drama as a result of his good singing voice, which he showcased at a karaoke room among the staff members of an SBS drama called “Lady Yojo.”

After starting his entertainment career as an OST singer, he made his debut in 2007 as the main vocalist of the four-member male group IV Cos.

Unfortunately, during his activities with IV Cos, he reportedly experienced assault, confinement, and fraud by his manager, and even had to be hospitalized in the past, according to some media reports.

While working part-time jobs to make a living after his marriage, his wife told him, “Why don’t you pursue acting? Try becoming a musical actor.” Thus, he quit his part-time job and started auditioning, this became his entry point to the musicals industry. He then became a huge star in the musical industry due to his acting and singing skills and has appeared in many famous musicals such as “Bent,” “Frankenstein,” and “Jekyll and Hyde.”

The actor is still actively doing musicals and has a new one coming up, he’s even unable to join the drama’s reward vacation due to his prior commitments to the musical.
