Media outlet JoyNews24 has unveiled the list for the worst Kdramas of 2024 which caused quite a reaction among fans!
This year, the top two spots were separated by only two votes.
“Queen Woo” – picked as the “Worst Drama”
“Queen Woo” earned the “Worst Drama” title, with 39 votes in a recent survey. Set in Goguryeo and featuring complex power struggles, the Tving original series, starring Jeon Jong Seo, follows Queen Woo as she attempts to establish a new king within 24 hours after the king’s sudden death. While highly anticipated due to its unique historical background and the sizable production budget, the drama faced criticism for both historical inaccuracies and its explicit scenes. Viewers voiced discomfort with overly sexualized portrayals of women, arguing that they detracted from the story’s aim to portray a strong female protagonist. The production team defended their choices, claiming some costumes and details were creative interpretations, though they based designs on historical Goguryeo murals.
“The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection” – Runner-Up
SBS’s “The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection,” the second season of “The Escape of the Seven,” garnered 37 votes. The show was criticized for its lack of coherence and excessive sensationalism, resulting in low ratings. Despite efforts to provide a fresh revenge arc, plot inconsistencies and an overly complex narrative left audiences disengaged.
“Beauty and the Innocent Man” – 3rd Place
KBS’s weekend drama “Beauty and the Innocent Man” took third with 28 votes. Although it drew interest for its dramatic elements, its overly tragic storyline, including amnesia and a protagonist’s partial paralysis, was seen as overly exaggerated. Despite these criticisms, the series achieved high viewership in its final episode.
In addition, other dramas like tvN’s Love Next Door got 13 votes, Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 got 9 votes, Netflix’s Sweet Home Season 3 got 8 votes, while Disney+’s Red Swan and KBS’s Korea–Khitan War received 6 votes each.
