Korean Actors Who Were Looked Down On For Being Too Handsome

While we can all agree that the majority of Korean actors are good looking, sometimes, it’s the only thing you hear people or critics ever discuss, sometimes forgetting just how talented an actor is simply because of their good looks overshadow their talent.

Today, we’re going to talk about some of the Korean actors who were once looked down on for being too handsome and how they managed to prove everyone wrong.

Ji Chang Wook

Ji Chang Wook is a popular Korean actor who has amassed a huge following nationally and internationally, but before getting to that level he actually struggled to prove that he was more than just a good looking young actor.

Despite making his debut in 2008, he didn’t gain momentum until his break out role in the daily drama series “Smile Again” and even then many questioned his acting skills, in later productions such as “The Last Empress” he got to show a different side of himself and definitely proved that he is not just another good looking actor but a talented actor indeed.

Jang Geun Suk

Jang Geun Suk is one of the most successful idol-actors in the industry and it wasn’t an easy route. He started out acting as a little child and gained recognition for his good looks and his acting talent, but as he grew older so did the stigma about his acting.

He became a man in front of the public eye and even personally revealed that he’d like to shed his good-looking image for a serious actor. In one interview from 2013, the actor bluntly said that his drama with YoonA burned him and he was badly hurt by it. He even stated that it might’ve hurt his chances of being taken seriously as an actor.





In some of his recent interviews, he spoke about wanting to be taken seriously as an actor not only a singer and his wishes to be better recognized in South Korea. With his last roles before his military enlistment, he most certainly proved himself to be a terrific actor who’s definitely underrated.

Lee Jong Suk

Lee Jong Suk start was originally in the modeling industry but he shifted towards acting later on. He’s known for his good looks and his long legs but he was also once underrated and his looks overshadowed his talent.

There is a presumption about model-turned-actors in the Korean industry, many believe they’re not always good actors, but Lee Jong Suk managed to prove this wrong with his acting skills.





With taking on more serious roles in his most recent dramas, he proved that he’s a great actor who can pull off thrillers, medical dramas, and rom-coms. His discharge is one of the most anticipated in 2021.

INFINITE L

L (real name Kim Myungsoo) debuted as an idol with the boy group INFINITE, he was the most highlighted member of his group and his good looks attracted so much attention. He is considered one of the most handsome kpop idols.

In many interviews, he opened up about being viewed as an aloof person and being misunderstood because of his cold demeanor, he talked about wanting to shed off that image through is works.





Kim Myungsoo didn’t start out as one of the best idol-actors but fans noticed how he grew to become actor Kim Myungsoo and they’re proud of him for that. His most recent role in “Angel’s Last Mission: Love” gained him lots of praise from the public; he has grown to become a good actor who’s more than just another idol trying to dab into the acting industry.

About being an idol and an actor, Kim Myungsoo said he welcomes constructive criticism. In a past interview, he opened up about netizens prejudice against idol actors, he said,

“There are a lot of idols these days. They come to do a work with various characteristics. When they fail, they’re cursed at, and when they’re good, they’e accepted. That is the public. When the public is biased against idol actors and look at them negatively, that’s the problem of the person acting. If they do well, there’s no problem. As a singer, I wanted to be accepted as ‘L,’ and as an actor, my goals are to be accepted as ‘Kim Myung Soo.’”

Park Bo Gum

One of the most famous South Korean actors was also once underestimated simply because of his good looks.

Park Bo Gum emerged as a handsome rising star in 2014 but he has been acting since 2012 making various small appearances in many dramas here and there, but it took him a while to be taken seriously by the industry and he got his break with his role in the popular series “Reply 1988.”

Even after the rise of his popularity, some still underestimated him, he proved them wrong by taking on the role of the crown prince in “Love in the Moonlight” and did exceptionally well in one of the most challenging acting projects he’s ever taken on.

Now, he’s undoubtedly one of the biggest names in the industry.
