2022 is fast approaching and this means a new set of Kdramas will soon drop. Various broadcasting stations and Streaming platforms have already confirmed promising projects in 2022, let us take a look at some of the biggest Korean dramas coming in 2022.

Eve’s Scandal

The drama’s already gained attention and for many reasons, it will mark Seo Ye Ji’s first comeback since her scandal earlier this year.

The drama is also said to be a hot topic among industry insiders for its solid script.

The casting includes Seo Ye Ji, Park Byung Eun, Yoo Sun, and Lee Sang Yeob.

“Eve’s Scandal” is a melodrama that centers around the story of a chaebol’s 2-trillion-won (approximately $1.7 billion) divorce lawsuit that shocks the entire nation. Seo Ye Ji is taking on the role of Lee Ra El, who is the woman at the center of the divorce lawsuit. Lee Sang Yeob is taking on the role of Seo Eun Pyung, a human rights lawyer who gives up everything for love once he meets Lee Ra El. Park Byung Eun is taking on the role of the CEO of the No. 1 corporate group in the financial world. It will mark his first-ever leading role in a drama.

The drama is scheduled to air in the first half of 2022.

Minamdang: Case Note

Fans are already excited about “Minamdang: Case Note” as it includes some of the most popular actors’ comeback project. The drama is led by Seo In Guk, Oh Yeon Seo, Kwak Si Yang, Kang Mina, And Kwon Soo Hyun.

“Minamdang: Case Note” is a mystery-comedy about the events that unfold when a former profiler Nam Han Joon [played by Seo In Guk] becomes a baksumudang (male shaman) and meets violent crimes division’s team leader Han Jae Hee [played by Oh Yeon Seo].

The drama is set to air in the first half of 2022 on KBS.

Hunting Dogs

Woo Do Hwan has been discharged from the military and his first comeback project is “Hunting Dogs,” he’s joined by a star-studded cast and the plot has fans buzzing.

The upcoming Netflix drama is based on a webtoon of the same title, it is an action noir about three men who try to get out of debt but their lives become entangled. Director Kim Joo Hwan of “Midnight Runners” and “The Divine Fury” will be writing and directing the drama.

Woo Do Hwan and Lee Sang Yi will play characters that get entangled in the loan sharks world.

Park Sung Woong is taking on the role of a vicious loan shark with dark ambitions, he will get into a tense confrontation with Mr. Choi who is played by Heo Joon Ho.

Kim Sae Ron rounds up the cast and will take on the role of Hyun Joo, a girl who is like family to Mr. Choi and will succeed him.

“Hunting Dogs” is expected to air sometime in 2022.

Going to You at a Speed of 493 km

Two of the brightest rising stars Chae Jong Hyeop and Park Ju Hyun are set to lead the upcoming drama “Going to You at a Speed of 493 km.”

Park Ju Hyun plays Park Tae Yang, a former aspiring Olympian who was forced to quit due to an incident. Chae Jong Hyeop takes on the role of Park Tae Joon, a man who sees badminton as his job. Both characters meet at a new team and work together.

“Going to You at a Speed of 493 km” is said to be a “sports romance drama” about a man and a woman on a mixed doubles badminton company team. It is confirmed to air in the first half of 2022 on KBS.

Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son

Fresh off the viral success of “Vincenzo,” Song Joong Ki picked his next project not too long after. He is set to lead the highly anticipated upcoming drama “Chaebol Family’s Youngest Son.” He’s joined by Shin Hyun Bin, who rose to fame after starring in tvN’s “Hospital Playlist 2.”

The drama is based on the hit web novel of the same name and tells the story of a man [Song Joong Ki] who was killed after being framed for embezzlement by a chaebol family, a family he’s served for over 10 years. He gets reborn as the youngest son of the chaebol family [Sunyang Group] and plans revenge by gradually taking over their empire.

Shin Hyun Bin is taking on the role of prosecutor Seo Min Young of the anti-corruption department. She gets involved with the youngest son Jin Do Joon in the process. The characters will walk the fine line between love and hatred.

The drama is set to air in the first half of 2022 on JTBC.

Money Heist

Among the most anticipated kdramas of 2022 will be the Korean remake of the hit Spanish drama “The House of Paper” (“La Casa de Papel”). The drama includes some of the biggest names in the industry and has recently teased its upcoming release via an announcement video by Park Hae Soo.

“Money Heist” will be led by Yoo Ji Tae, Park Hae Soo, Kim Ji Hoon, Kim Yoon Jin, Jang Yoon Joo, Park Jung Woo, Lee Kyu Ho and more.

It tells the story of people who gather to plan a heist led by a criminal mastermind called the Professor which will be played by Yoo Ji Tae. The professor recruits members who go by their select city names as their code names, they all have strong personalities. Due to the hostages they take, they face an unexpected situation.

According to Netflix, the drama will air in the second half of 2022.

Why Oh Soo Jae?

Fresh off the success of “True Beauty,” Hwang In Yeop is set to take on his first leading role opposite rom-com queen Seo Hyun Jin.

“Why Oh Soo Jae?” tells the story of the coldhearted lawyer Oh Soo Jae (Seo Hyun Jin), who becomes empty after only chasing success and the law school student Gong Chan (Hwang In Yeop), who would do whatever it takes to protect her. He reaches out to her after her downfall.

Veteran actor Heo Joon Ho also joins the cast as the TK law firm’s chairman Choi Tae Guk, Soo Jae is the ace of that firm. Choi Tae Guk is also keeping an eye on Oh Soo Jae as he suspects her of planning to betray him.

In the recent showcase SBS held to show off their 2022 drama lineup, “Why Oh Soo Jae?” was confirmed to be coming in the first half of 2022.

Suriname

Another highly anticipated Netflix 2022 kdrama includes some of the biggest veterans in the industry. “Suriname” is based on true events, it takes place in South America, where a drug lord operating in the country has grabbed the attention of the National Intelligence Service. The NIS enlists the help of an ordinary entrepreneur who aims to make a fortune in Suriname but ends up falling deep into the world of drug crimes.

The cast includes Ha Jung Woo, Hwang Jung Min, Park Hae Soo, Jo Woo Jin, Yoo Yeon Seok. The drama is set to air in 2022.

Dr. Lawyer

So Ji Sub has been absent from TV for a while now and he’s decided on his comeback project to TV recently. He’s set to star in the MBC drama “Dr. Lawyer.”

The drama tells the story of a genius medical surgeon named Han Yi Han [So Ji Sub] who loses everything after an unknown manipulation to his surgery. He returns as a medical lawyer. So Ji Sub is joined by the talented Shin Sung Rok and Im Soo Hyang

“Dr. Lawyer” airs in the first half of 2022.

Again My Life

Hallyu actor Lee Joon Gi is coming back with a new drama opposite the rising talent Kim Ji Eun.

“Again My Life” tells the story of a young prosecutor who gets a second chance to pursue justice after failing to bring down a powerful person. The drama was originally a novel written by Lee Hae Nal, it was later released as a webtoon. Lee Joon Gi is taking on the role of Kim Hee Woo who passes the bar exam despite his low grades in high school. He was unfairly killed while investigating a corrupt politician named Jo Tae Seop and unexpectedly gets another shot at life. Kim Ji Eun is taking on the role of Kim Hee Ah, the youngest daughter of Cheonha Group’s CEO who is also a genius. She becomes interested in Kim Hee Woo. Kim Jae Kyung rounds up the cast and is playing the role of Kim Han Mi, a reporter who has the beauty and will aid Kim Hee Woo in his pursuit of justice.

“Again My Life” is expected to be released in April 2022 on SBS.

Crazy Love

It’s been a while but Kim Jae Wook is finally returning to the small screen and this time, opposite the talented Krystal.

“Crazy Love” is about a man [Kim Jae Wook] who pretends to have amnesia when he is told he will be murdered, it’s also the story of a woman [played by Krystal] who pretends to be his fiance when she is told she doesn’t have much time to live.

“Crazy Love” is scheduled to air in February of 2022 on KBS.

Twenty-Five Twenty-One

One of the most anticipated tvN dramas of 2022 is “Twenty-Five Twenty-One.” It boasts a star-studded cast including Kim Tae Ri, Nam Joo Hyuk, WJSN’s Bona, Choi Hyun Wook and Lee Joo Myung.

“Twenty-Five Twenty-One” tells the love story of two people Na Hee-Do (Kim Tae-Ri) and Baek Yi-Jin (Nam Joo-Hyuk) who meet when they are 22 and 18. They begin their love story four years later when they are 25 and 21. It will focus on youth romance, growth, and friendship.

It is expected to air in February of 2022

Big Mouth

It took Lee Jong Suk a while to confirm his first comeback drama since his military discharge which makes people even more curious about what type of project he chose and he chose “Big Mouth.”

Lee Jong Suk, YoonA, Kwak Dong Yeon, Kim Joo Heon, Ok Ja Yeon, And Yang Kyung Won will lead the upcoming Netflix drama “Big Mouth.”

“Big Mouth” is a hard-boiled noir drama about a third-rate lawyer [Lee Jong Suk] who becomes in charge of a murder case that turns him into a genius conman known as “Big Mouse.” In order to protect his family and survive, he must expose a huge conspiracy among the privileged upper classes. YoonA plays the role of the lawyer’s wife. She works as a nurse. After suspecting her husband to be “Big Mouse” she attempts to clear his name.

The drama has been filming for a while and is expected to be released in early 2022.

Moving

Disney+ is expanding its investment in Hallyu content and among its biggest projects scheduled for 2022 is the upcoming drama “Moving.”

“Moving” will be led by Han Hyo Joo, Jo In Sung and Ryu Seung Ryong. It notably marks Jo In Sung’s first drama in 8 years.

It will be a large-scale drama, its being described as an action-hero thriller based on a webtoon by Kang Full. It tells the story of three teenagers who have secret superpowers and their parents, who have their own hidden painful secrets from their past. They eventually team up to battle powerful dark forces that threaten multiple generations across different eras.

Jo In Sung will be starring as Kim Doo Shik, a veteran agent with the ability to fly. Han Hyo Joo will star as Lee Mi Hyun who has superhuman senses. Ryu Seung Ryong will play Jang Joo Won, who is unable to feel pain and has regenerative powers that allow him to recover quickly from an injury. Cha Tae Hyun will play Jeon Kye Do, who can create electricity as he wishes.

The script reading already took place in August of 2021 and according to Disney+, the drama will air in the second half of 2022.

Office Romance Cruelty

Another highly anticipated romance drama is titled “Office Romance Cruelty.” It’s led by Park Min Young, Song Kang, Yura, and Yoon Park.

The upcoming drama tells the story of work and romance of people who work at the weather forecast service. Park Min Young is taking on the role of Jin Ha Kyung, an intelligent character with a cold and sensitive personality. Song Kang is taking on the role of Lee Si Woo, a guy who appears clumsy but has an IQ of 150 and is serious about his job.

“Office Romance Cruelty” will air in the first half of 2022.

Our Blues

“Our Blues” boasts one of the most star-studded cast of any 2022 drama, the sheer amount of A-list actors in the production will blow you away, added to that, it will mark real-life couple Shin Min Ah and Kim Woo Bin first joint project.

“Our Blues” is an omnibus-style drama that focuses on the sweet, sour and bitter life stories of diverse characters throughout different stages in their lives, the setting will be in Jeju Island.

The cast includes Lee Byung Hun, Shin Min Ah, Kim Woo Bin, Han Ji Min, Lee Jung Eun, Cha Seung Won, and Uhm Jung Hwa among many others.

Screenwriter No Hee Kyung is behind the massive project, she’s previously written many hit dramas including “That Winter, The Wind Blows,” “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” “Dear My Friends,” and “Live.”

The drama will be directed by Kim Kyu Tae, who has worked on dramas including “That Winter, The Wind Blows,” “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” “Live,” “Iris,” and “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo.”

The drama is scheduled to premiere in 2022.

Tell Me Your Wish

“Tell Me Your Wish” is an upcoming drama that was inspired by an actual organization that exists in the Netherlands that fulfills wishes for terminally ill cancer patients.

Ji Chang Wook, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung and Sung Dong Il will be leading the drama.

“Tell Me Your Wish” will focus on the story of a young man [played by Ji Chang Wook] who is pushed to his limits by a life full of struggles, he goes to a hospice hospital and volunteers to fulfill the last wishes of people. There he works with the volunteer team leader Kang Tae-Sik (Sung Dong Il) and Nurse Seo Yeon-Joo (Sooyoung).

The drama is set to premiere in the first half of 2022.

  1. The first 3 (“The Eve’s scandal”, “Minamdang: Case note” and “Hounding Dogs”) and “Tell me Your Wish”- that will probably be a No for me, but to the rest of the list I’ll give it a try. Especially excited for the remake of Casa de Papel. On top of that, as a big fan of “Yumi’s cells” I look forward to Yumi’s cells second season and to the “Little Women” adaptation. And it seems that Lee MinHo will make his comeback with a drama alongside Gong Hyo Jin, so that one will also be interesting to see. Happy to see Nam Joo Hyuk back, I wonder why is he not working on more projects. It seems that he is supposed to go to the military soon, so I imagined he would do more projects before that but last year he was absent. So it will be food to see him in a drama.
