Korean agencies are well-known for their strict rules that idols must follow if they want to debut and make it big. One of those rules has to be the dating ban.
If you’re not familiar with Kpop culture, dating bans are exactly what you think they would be. Idols are restricted and not allowed to date for a specific amount of time after their debut.
Agencies go above and beyond to protect their artists and to make sure that they don’t go around dating while they’re still busy making a name for themselves.
Each agency dating ban period differs. JYP Entertainment’s dating ban is 3 years. GOT7 has been around for four years, they debuted back in 2014. Their dating ban was lifted last year.
However, rapper Jackson of GOT7 actually s doesn’t mind the dating ban anymore.
In early 2018, he was a guest on MBC’s famous variety show “Radio Star.” He talked about many things including the dating ban of JYP Entertainment and revealed why he doesn’t want to date.
The MCs of the show pointed out that the last time Jackson was here he couldn’t wait for the dating ban to be lifted. However, he shocked them when he revealed that he isn’t ready to date anyone at the moment.
He said,
“Right now I am too busy to even sleep. Honestly I want to date someone but dating isn’t a joke. Its not a play. It’s not only fun. You have to take responsibility. So I need to have free time to meet someone..”
The MCs of the show pointed out that he had the wrong way of thinking, and that love doesn’t come when you want it to, that it could happen at any moment.
However, Jackson stuck by his words and said that he’s focusing on being a successful member of GOT7 and will work hard for his group to reach the top in 2018.
Fans were surprised by his dedication to his craft and his group. He loves GOT7 so much that he’s willing to sacrifice his youth in order to make it big.
2018 has turned out to be a great year for GOT7 and iGOT7s. We will always support you, Jackson!
