Cha Tae Hyun was one of the recent public figures who were linked to chatroom conversations from Jung Joon Young phone.

As previously reported, KBS revealed chat logs of conversations between “2 Days & 1 Night” members Cha Tae Hyun, Kim Jun Ho and Jung Joon Young discussing illegal gambling/betting, Cha Tae Hyun was bragging about earning money and showing it off in the chat logs.

The issue became controversial because gambling is illegal in South Korea.

On March 17, Cha Tae Hyun released an official apology addressing the KBS report; he announced he would be stepping down from all of his shows including “2 Days & 1 Night.”

Here is a translation of his statement:

“Hello. This is Cha Tae Hyun.

First, I’m incredibly sorry…

We did not play golf abroad contrary to what’s said in the reports, but we played it at home, thinking it was a game for fun, and the money was returned immediately at the time.

We did this for fun, but I’m so ashamed to see myself posting it to the group room. As a loved public figure who received lots of love, I consider my actions unacceptable.

I am so sorry for disappointing my fans and for the viewers who loved ‘2 Days & 1 Night.’

I’m really sorry that I hurt the other members of ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ who will be negatively affected by my actions. Therefore, I am going to step down from all of my programs.

As a father of a family, I am extremely sorry to my children and my family. I will take time to reflect on my actions. I apologize.”

Meanwhile, “2 Days & 1 Night” stated they would be releasing an official statement on March 18 KST to address the current issues surrounding two other members of the program.

Netizens were furious with what they think is a tiny matter to be blown out of proportions, they believe Cha Tae Hyun and Kim Jun Ho are being used as a distraction to cover bigger issues happening right now in South Korea.

What do you think of this?

  1. It is true that we do not know all and everything about celebrities, from behind the cameras… however I believe more than half of it are True and sincere. 2D1N has been an inspiration to me… hardships give more meanings and more reasons to choose to be happy even for a simple reasons…as it said, If simple reasons can’t make you happy, then there is no other reasons for you to be.

I can’t and no one need to defend anyone, asides from the court of Law.

The happenings now are reality of somehow protecting some , and some must take a fall.

But questions is…in Exchange of What?

Things may be out of heat one day… But the effect is immeasurable to when and how it will happen.

Money is a means of way of living… necessity

But not to live for money.
    It changed people’s heart.

  2. Illegal gambling? Playing a game in your own home? Having a friendly bet? Everyone who plays card games or any games and bets a lttle money to up the fun is guilty of illegal gambling? Posting a picture in your private chatroom is.a crime? Cha Tae hyun and Kim Jun Ho, there are more.people who believe in you.

  3. Oh come-on There are huge problem to be taken care of than a fun game by friends during time to unwind. Not a serious offense, they do deserve a second chance, and why is this happening so fast, sometimes I do think is this some kind of a JOKE or just an escape goat for more serious matter to abolish the variety show which we love so much. In this show, we became interested in Visiting South Korea, as they view different places of interest that we have not seen yet. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS AS FIRST OFFENSE and take into consideration that it isn’t a serious matter, I mean if you have common sense. We love the show because of the Casting, taking out Cha Tae Hyun and the rest is isn’t a good idea at all! Please consider!
