Whatever Happened To 4minute Members?

4minute is a Cube Entertainment group that debuted back in 2009, its composes of 5 very talented members. The group has never been able to achieve the same level of success fellow girl groups that debuted around the same time.

They made their last comeback with their seventh mini-album Act. 7 on February 9, 4Minute collaborated with American producer Skrillex on the lead single, “Hate.”





On June 13, it was announced that the group would be disbanding and the only member who re-signed her contract as a soloist was HyunA, the four other members left the agency.

It has been well over two years since the shocking news of 4minute’s disbandment. So what are the members up to? Who is doing well and who is still struggling to find her place in the entertainment industry?

Son Ji Hyun

The leader of 4Minute first signed with Artist Company and changed her name from Nam Ji Hyun to Son Ji Hyun (taking her mother’s last name). She posted a heartfelt letter to her fans explaining her decision and saying that she will work as hard as she can as Son Ji Hyun.

She started promoting as a rookie actress all over again, she opened up about how difficult it was for her after her group disbanded,

“The year after 4Minute disbanded, it was really hard. I was afraid to meet people, so for a month, I didn’t leave the house. The thought that seven years had vanished in a single moment made me feel empty.”





However, she also revealed that she enjoys promoting as an actress and has fun on the set, she still thinks she’s lacking but she is trying her best.

She revealed that she has been auditioning for as many roles as possible. She acted in “The Strongest Delivery Man” and “Grand Prince” recently, but she doesn’t have any drama or movie projects lined up.

Both dramas weren’t met with success but fans paid attention to her acting and praised her for trying to do well.

Heo Ga Yoon

On October 14, 2016 she signed a contract with BS Company as an actress. However, she didn’t starr in any drama at all since 2016, but has worked on a movie called “Drug King” with Bae Doona, Song Kang Ho, and Jo Jung Suk.

It was announced that she had joined the cast of the highly anticipated movie back in 2017, she plays a supporting character.

The movie is yet to be released, it was scheduled to be released in summer 2018 but its now fall and its expected that the movie will be out before this year ends.

Another movie she worked on back when 4Minute were still together was a movie called “Daddy You, Daughter Me” which also starrs Jung So Min, Yoon Je Moon and many others.





The movie was filmed back in 2015 and finished in 2016; it was released in April 2017. It was Gayoon’s acting debut project.

She keeps her fans regularly updated on her activities through her instagram account.

On June 5th, 2018 she departed her agency and became a free agent. It has been 3 months and fans are still waiting to hear good news, some believe her previous agency failed in helping her launch a career as an actress.

Jeon Ji Yoon

After 4minute disbanded, it was announced on August 8, 2016, that Jiyoon has signed an exclusive contract with JS E&M.

The agency announced her solo debut plans and actively support her from music to acting and also on variety shows, citing her as having “unlimited potential.”

Jiyoon debuted as a solo artist on November 2, 2016 by the stage name “Jenyer,” with the single album Day and Night featuring two tracks that she wrote, composed, and produced herself, “I Do” and “Magnet.”





She soared to the top of music charts overseas, she expressed her joy about it saying,

“I thought I had ranked in the K-pop charts, but in Vietnam, I was No. 1 on the overall charts.”

However, on September 8, 2017 she left her agency. There hasn’t been any news of whether she signed with a new agency or not. She continues to release music, her most recent release was “Because” a soulful R&B track with a trendy jazz melody, she took part in composing the song and writing the lyrics. It was released on January 13 at 6 p.m. KST.

Kwon So Hyun

Kwon So Hyun is also another 4minute member who shifted to acting after 4minute disbanded, she acted in child roles in the dramas “Jewel in the Palace” and “Lovers in Paris” before she debuted as a member of 4Minute.

After 4minute disbanded on November 15, 2016, 935 Entertainment announced they signed an exclusive contract with Kwon So Hyun, 935 Entertainment also houses actors such as Namgoong Min.

She kicked started her solo career through a travel variety show titled “Serendipity” she was joined by actor Jang Hyuk, actress Han Chae Ah, and Han Min Chae, they traveled to various places in Vietnam.





After leaving her group, she also starred in the film “Hwang Gu” it tells the story of a multicultural family, as well as the film “My Last Love” which premiered last November, 2017.

She left 935 Entertainment in October 2017 and joined TheCNT on February 9, 2018, which houses well-known actors such as Na Moon Hee, Jun Kwang Ryul, Kim Byung Ok, and Kim Yoo Suk.

Nothing has been heard from her ever since. Fans are waiting for her upcoming acting project.

HyunA

She is the only member who re-signed a contract with Cube Entertainment after her group disbanded.

She released her fifth EP A’wesome which was supported by her first concert tour of the United States, shortly after her group’s disbandment.

The album topped nine local music charts upon release and she also embarked on her first solo Asia tour soon after that.

To mark her tenth anniversary, HyunA announced a fan-meeting tour in North America. She visited ten cities in total during February 2017.





On April 3, 2017, Cube Entertainment confirmed that HyunA and Pentagon members Hui and E’Dawn were set to debut in May as new sub-unit “Triple H.” On April 4, Cube TV released a new reality TV program called Triple H Detective Agency to promote the new subunit.

Triple H debuted on May 1st, 2017 with an extended play 199X along with the single “365 Fresh” and its music video.

HyunA released her sixth mini-album “Following” and its title track “Babe” on August 29, 2017, shortly after Triple H debut.

KBS’s idol rebooting show “The Unit” has revealed that HyunA will be one of the mentors of its new idol rebooting show. The show aired in October 2017.





On December 2, 2017, the rapper attended the 2017 Melon Music Awards, where she premiered the single “Lip & Hip.” It was officially released two days later.

Triple H came back with another extended play Retro Futurism On July 18, 2017, the second extended play, Retro-Futurism, was accompanied by a music video for the single, “Retro Future.”

Around the same time as Triple H made a comeback, it was revealed that HyunA was working on a solo pre-release track and that she was releasing an album around mid-August.

In response to the reports, Cube Entertainment commented,

“It is true that HyunA is preparing her album, but the album format and exact timing have not been decided yet.”

HyunA is the most active 4minute member even after the group disbanded, she didn’t slow down and continued to release many hit songs. She also participated in many pictorials and variety shows as well.





However, problems soon found its way to HyunA recently. On August 3, 2018, Hyuna revealed that she has been dating Pentagon’s E’Dawn since May 2016.

International fans loved the reveal while Korean fans hated it, some even demanded E’Dawn be expelled from his group. Following the severe backlash, HyunA and her boyfriend canceled all of their activities. Triple H was promoting their most recent release and had to stop, its believed that the trio is officially over.

A couple of weeks ago and on September 13, Cube Entertainment kicked out HyunA and her boyfriend citing ‘broken trust’ as the reason for their decision. However, a couple of hours later, the agency retracted their claim and said they were discussing the issue with her.

Since then, nothing has been heard from HyunA or her agency but fans are convinced that HyunA will probably leave and find a new agency.

  1. WOW, this paints a very negative image of all the members except Hyuna. Fact is, the four others where left Cube have all been working, and according to reports, been paid quite well. Hyuna has done quite well, but no as well as when 4Minute was still there.
