“Your Honor” Episodes 1 And 2 Review- Super Intense
This month will be packed with new releases, and one of the 1st ones is ENA’s newest series “Your Honor” where a judge hiding his son’s crime goes up against a gangster who is hellbent on getting revenge.
Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.
The power struggle and the basic plot idea sounded like fun, so how was the premiere?
Let us discuss!
This Kdrama probably has one of the most unique plot ideas among August releases, for a start. An upstanding judge who comes face to face with his own convictions as he attempts to cover up the crimes of his son.
The 1st mistake like the majority have already said online was leaving the body. The head injury looked really bad and I am surprised the body remained alive for as long as it did. I mean, the family would have been livid but an upstanding student who had an asthma attack and accidentally hit that kid would’ve gotten much less scrutiny and maybe, even less backlash from the family, as opposed to just leaving the body there like a coward.
Ho-Young’s character didn’t strike me as a nice kid as much as a sensitive one if that makes sense… thus far. I mean, my judgment could change but him running away from a dying young man isn’t exactly the stamp of ‘nice’ the screenwriter seems to want to convey. Of course, these are only 2 episodes so we have a lot to get through.
At this point and with how heated the situation is already, I am guessing it’ll only get worse, much worse.
I mean, I understand the judge’s desire to protect his son, but he’s not really helping himself or his son as much as he’s delaying the inevitable, a painful death.
Also, they’ve already figured out who stole the car and already killed his kid, so I am guessing with the judge’s horrible reactions and actions, he’ll get ton of innocent people killed because of his inadequate son.
Also, it bothered me how the judge never really scolded his son, more like accepted everything and just went along with it, maybe its because he already screwed up big time trying to protect his son so he sees this being unnecessary, but I would’ve had strong words for my son had he run away from a dying person. I would think I pretty much failed as a parent.
I am guessing the deceased brother, the mother, and the gangster father will all try to take revenge their own way. They’re already twisted people so imagine activating the worst parts of them by killing their beloved.
This Drama will be 10 episodes long which is quite surprising because I think the gangster dad will know who killed his son or have a good idea of the family attached to it by episode 3 or 4, so it makes me wonder what 6 more episodes would do.
6 more episodes seem like a lot already considering how thin the plot appears on 1st viewing.
Of course, I could be wrong, very wrong. And if I am, then its great, it means there is enough material to cover for 10 episodes and if its as well-written as the 1st two, then we’re in for a treat.
I could also see how some wouldn’t like this, so I think if you’re not a fan of violent and murder-themed dramas in general, this won’t be fun for you. But for me, this is right up my alley.
The performances were amazing across the board. The veterans Son Hyun-Joo and Kim Myung-Min are already a huge deal and so much fun to watch. When you add the rising actors playing their sons, you’ll have a great formula for what could be a surprise hit series.
Kim Do Hoon has a bright future ahead of him and I am a huge fan of how intense Huh Nam Joon already is, I got my eyes on him. He seems very promising too. I hope he gets to shine here properly.
Overall, “Your Honor” had one of the better premieres of a 2024 Kdrama. This year has been lackluster as I am sure many of you think, I don’t know whats going on, but we’re going through a very quiet period that could potentially end this month because of the many releases scheduled.
So, what about you guys? Did you like the premiere?
