Disney+ “Soundtrack #1” has wrapped up its run recently and here are my thoughts on the series overall and why I believe this is the most perfect romance kdrama I’ve seen in a while.

“Soundtrack #1” is only four episodes long, which is already great news for busy people like myself who don’t like their time to be wasted. If you’re one yourself, you’ll probably love it too.

Note: This is a subjective review.

“Soundtrack #1” is directed by the same female director who brought us “Vincenzo.” This particular kdrama feels more like a passion project than something that anyone wanted to break ground with or create some sort of effect but I actually think it might end up doing just that.

If you guys have been keeping up with how much the K-content industry has changed in the last couple of years, then you probably already noticed how much shorter they have become, and how some have opted out of the traditional 16 episode format we’re all so used to.

Anything that is shorter and more concise is welcomed by me any day of the week, and I think “Soundtrack #1” represents what the streaming industry can bring to the table when it comes to Kdramas.

None of Disney+ Korean content releases thus far has left a particularly good impression on me, despite how big they are, they are yet to gain a footing in the industry but I think they still have potential.

“Soundtrack #1” is the best of what the OTT market can bring to kdramas. Romance kdramas in their current format aren’t the best and I think we all know that. “A Business Proposal,” for example, was only 12 episodes long which really benefited the drama and its creators. In the future, I think we’ll begin to see shorter kdramas more often. 16 episodes for most topics are too much, regardless of what their nature is.

What has been happening in recent memory is this, production companies stretching what should have been 8 or 10 episodes worth of content to 16 or 20. This not only dilutes the content but can also affect the production quality. You end up with a bloated script and lose steam in the middle.

“Soundtrack #1” avoids all of that and just jumps right in. The marketing for the drama was extensive but still, adorable, especially if you like OSTs. Its a musical type of kdrama and is so simple which makes me love it even more. Its not pretending to be something its not and its not trying to either.

You end up getting the best type of romance kdrama, the short sweet type. I assure you if this was picked up by a Korean broadcasting station, this would have been stretched to 12 or 16 episodes when it definitely doesn’t have the enough material to carry that run time.

Han So Hee and Park Hyung Sik share the best most adorable chemistry too. Han So Hee and Park Hyung Sik are usually two actors who have good chemistry with almost everyone they act with and this time, they don’t disappoint either.

One of my minor complaints with the drama was how little we got to see them love each other but it can actually be intentional since the drama was talking about when you realize you really like your best friend and how that process looks like.

The drama also doesn’t have any unnecessary toxicity. It feels like a grownup drama uninterested in dramatics which I also liked.

And the drama is only four episodes so it had to have especially sucked for it to be considered bad in my book, thankfully, it didn’t even come close to that.

To anyone who LOVES romance kdramas, this is probably a god send. I don’t see anyone who really likes such types of dramas walking away disappointed.

This is why I believe “Soundtrack #1” is a romance drama you won’t regret watching.
