“Reborn Rich” Episode 1, 2 And 3 Review- A Premiere As Fun As Expected
“Reborn Rich” has been a hot topic among fans for a while now and its finally here in all its glory. Lets talk about it.
Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.
I had high expectations from the drama going in, and I think that for the most part, its been a fun watch, albeit a confusing in many parts.
The drama has one of the most star-studded lineups of actors in any 2022 Kdrama, this alone is an achievement. Besides that, the drama airs 3 episodes weekly which is especially good news if the drama is fun.
A lot of people have said the drama reminded them of “Again My Life” for the fact that both have similar premises. However, upon a very narrow first inspection, “Again My Life” makes a lot more sense in the grand scheme of things, of course, this opinion of mine can change.
Let me explain why I said that!
In “Reborn Rich,” the dude is brought back to the year 1987, a far cry from the year 2022. The first and most pressing question I found myself asking was, ‘why would he still consider revenge down the line?’ I say this for very obvious reasons, Do Joon now lives a luxury life, surrounded by one of the wealthiest families in Korea. He knows the future and can manipulate the situation to his advantage, he also has capital to play around with.
So in a sense, despite the fact that he was murdered, when he’s brought back to life, its as if it never happened, besides that, to carry that resentment for a good 35 years, especially if he’s been living in relative luxury for a while, is a bit difficult for me to swallow.
Who can theoretically keep up this energy and retain their memories from so many years ago until the moment of revenge? Something about this as a premise is a bit dodgy to me from a logical POV. I realize its a drama but to me, a hostile takeover for the sole purpose of punishing those who killed him 35 years into the future is a bit much in my opinion. I mean if it was 5 or even 10 years ago, I’d get it but to go back 35 years into the past and continue planning the said revenge for so long is a bit…. much
Of course, if they do end up hurting him along the way, that would definitely give him more motivation and drive, so I only see this as the most probable course of action moving forward.
For the premiere episodes, I’d say “Reborn Rich” has been quite the fun ride. Its very nice to watch what happens and how he correctly tells the future, its something I think many of us would do if we were granted a second opportunity at life in the past.
The 3rd episode is the shortest but felt the longest, I think its because they take up some time to set up a lot of the big things he wants to do.
Having said this, a lot of things seem to fall in place for our Do Joon including the fact that people just believe a little kid’s predictions, but thats also the premise of the drama so… really can’t put too much emphasis on this thing.
I wonder how long he plans on operating before going full beast mode on them. I also wonder if he wants the company to disintegrate it or keep it for himself.
The romance part was the most puzzling for me because from their very brief interaction in the present time, I didn’t think they got to interact beyond two minutes, so for him to feign interest in her so fast and so surely was honestly the most odd thing about the entire premiere…. Even more odd than the revenge part.
I wonder if there is more to their connection in the future which would explain why he’s behaving like this. It seems he knew what she does and how ruthless she can be.
I don’t think a romance is necessary in this case but it would definitely introduce more drama to the story. I wonder if he’s approaching her to later control her actions toward the group or to help her out later on.
He didn’t particularly have the best moral compass while working for the group so I wonder if the hostile takeover he’s planning for is for his own good, or because he’s secretly been feeling very bad about the many people he’s probably hurt with his actions solely because he ‘had to follow orders’ while in Soonyang.
Regardless, I am excited for what to come despite the sheer absurdity in many parts of the premiere.
I think “Reborn Rich” has a good chance of 15 or even 20% if this pace is kept up. Its been doing immensely well so far in ratings thus far.
Have you seen the premiere yet? what are your thoughts on it?
