“It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” 2nd episode has aired a couple of hours ago, and I am here to talk about it.

I had previously reviewed the first episode, if you haven’t read it; you can do so from here.

I previously said that “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” was a lot calmer than I expected it to be but it was still nice. My thoughts remain unchanged but I am getting skeptic. Let’s talk about “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” 2nd episode.

I’ve previously also stated how done I was with the ‘we knew each other in the past’ type of trope and this one is as stale as they come, oh how much I wish they didn’t share that past connection. This particular trope is starting to get on my damn nerves.

I love how well suited Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Yi Ji are to each other. I love Kang Tae’s character wholeheartedly, just look at his eyes, how can you not? This is the type of character I wanted him to play since forever, he’s at odds with the world and left behind by those who swore to protect him but he still hasn’t turned bitter. I admire his perseverance.

We found out that his mother had died, the story doesn’t elaborate much on what exactly went wrong but apparently, his older brother Sang Tae witnessed the murder and says the butterflies did it. Of course, it’s hard to trust his perception of things for obvious reasons but I found his past just heartbreaking.

I want to focus on just how amazing actor Oh Jung Se is, despite his age in the industry, he doesn’t mind playing such type of challenging character. He’s doing so well and completely immerses himself in his role. He is one of my fav ahjussi actors and I am always amazed by his acting.

“It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” 2nd episode was slow, a bit slower than the first episode aside from a couple of happenings here and there. I wonder if this will be the overall theme for this drama because I don’t know if it’s enough to capture and keep attention for 16 episodes.

“It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” moves in a slower-than-expected pace and is filled with a lot of silent moments that I know are supposed to add to the feel of the drama but I don’t know how to feel about it. “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” is supposed to be a healing drama so I get the slow pace but I am a bit wary of how this will turn out.

It’s stated that Moon Young has anti-social personality disorder but her actions ring more true to a selfish sociopath leaning towards psychopathy behavior. Kang Tae tells her she can’t be fixed because she was ‘born like that’ which is very odd for someone who supposedly has anti-social personality disorder. Isn’t it something you develop as you grow? Anti-social personality disorder wouldn’t cause someone to nearly and deliberately try to kill another one who got on their nerves.

If she’s also a sociopath, I don’t know how to feel about love making her become a better person, I hope the drama dives deeply into how Kang Tae helps her get rid of her shenanigans with professional help rather than the miracle of ‘love.’

“It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” has the potential to become a great healing drama but so far, I don’t know how well it’ll turn out. I love their chemistry and everyone’s performances but the drama has an uphill battle ahead of it, it has a lot of parts that could easily fall into the cliché category and I don’t know if they have enough content for 16 episodes.

I am watching “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” because it’s my Soo Hyun and I missed him so damn much, but I am waiting to see how the story progresses to give an accurate estimation of whether it surpasses expectations or not.

But was I impressed with the premiere? No, hardly. I think it’s because I had high high expectations based on the teasers and photos, tvN began promoting for the drama release a month prior and almost daily updated fans with photos and teasers. I expected a bigger show, I am not disappointed that it’s not but the ‘healing’ part is a tricky one for me.

I know a lot of people are already hooked and I don’t blame them, but I am waiting for that spark.

One netizen put it well; this show needs to do something by its 3rd to 6th episode if they want to keep viewers tuning in. Kang Tae’s kindness and Moon Young antics can only work for so long.

So what about you guys? Did you enjoy the premiere of It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”?
