“Gangnam B-Side” Episodes 1 And 2 Review- A Lot To Take In But Very Intriguing
The 2nd to last Disney+ original Kdrama of 2024, “Gangnam B-Side” is finally here! Let us discuss it!
Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.
I love me anything that involves Jo Woo Jin, an amazing actor you can’t take off your eyes from when he’s on screen. He’s joined by the cute Wookie in another dark thriller named “Gangnam B-Side.”
Wookie has been especially busy this year doing back to back projects, or more like having his previously filmed projects air back to back, this is his 3rd drama of 2024.
I’ve always wanted to see Wookie play a horrible character and it seems like its finally happening. In this drama, he’s taking on the role of a pimp, which is not a sentence I ever thought I’d type out but I am nonetheless impressed.
So, my guess is he’ll team up with the detective played wonderfully by Jo Woo Jin to catch the famous hallyu star who killed his girls. He seems relentless and crazy enough you wouldn’t want to mess with him because he’ll bite and never let go. Loved his performance and loved Jo Woo Jin’s performance too. Such a charismatic actor.
But I don’t know why I wasn’t aware that Jung Ga ram was also in this project… maybe because I’ve been busy lately but I was pleasantly surprised seeing him play this horrible hallyu actor who is trying his best to keep his horrible shenanigan from exploding in his face, I anticipate him getting his ass kicked by Gil-Ho when he catches him.
Our unlikely pair have a lot of obstacles in their way but I am assuming that the prosecutor will also join in later on and protect them as they pursue charges against the actor Noh Joon-Seo.
I assume the actor was filmed doing horrible things to the girls, hence he’s been hunting them down one by one to kill them to hide his crimes and Jae-Hee is the last link that’ll help bring him down, if she’s not killed that is.
“Gangnam B-Side,” in terms of feel and writing style, is right up my alley so I enjoyed the premiere a lot. It was a lot to take in especially considering how these men just throw women into horrible scenarios for their own gain. I was mortified, and sadly reminded such horrible men exist.
This dark gritty drama is directed by a woman, Park Noo-Ri and co-written by her and another screenwriter who has only one other credit to their name. So this should be interesting. The good thing is its on Disney+ so a lot of restrictions on the type of subjects they’ll discuss is minimized. They have more leeway is what I am saying.
“Gangnam B-Side” will only be 8 episodes which I think is appropriate based on my 1st viewing because this fast-paced highly risky venture cannot be stretched too far or else, it’ll ruin the project.
Suffice to say, I am super excited about next week’s episodes. This should be intriguing, depressing but intriguing.
So have you guys seen the 1st and 2nd episode of “Gangnam B-Side”? Thoughts?
