It’s been months in the making, but we’re finally here and I CANNOT CONTAIN MY EMOTIONS.

I’ve been waiting for this new tvN drama for a while now and you could say this was one of the projects I was most excited for in 2021. Not only is the casting great but the idea seems interesting.

And we’re finally here! “Doom at Your Service” episode 1 is here and you bet I’ll publish an article to talk about it.

The intriguing-confusing idea

We’re only one episode in but so far, I don’t quite understand the idea behind it. So apparently, Seo In Guk is playing the role of ‘doom’ literally speaking. The concept is confusing me still, but I find the idea intriguing that a human-like form controls doom in our lives. Its a nice idea.

The screenwriter behind this drama only has another project to her name which was the 2018 drama “The Beauty Inside,” a drama I had mixed feelings on. However, I trust our leads judgment and I hope to god this won’t disappoint.

This could easily fall into the typical Korean fantasy rom-com tropes but I shall wait and see how it plays out, so far, its intriguing and a bit confusing because the ideas aren’t properly explained.

It could be an arbitrary term the word ‘doom,’ because it could mean anything to anyone, what is a good thing to some could be a bad thing to others which could also explain why he saved the man who stabbed many people earlier on in the episode.

The shocking ‘death’ introduction

At first, I thought it was a joke but turns out it was real. I didn’t expect that our female lead is going to die within 100 days. I was also slightly confused by the introduction because I almost thought it was a joke at first and that the doctor was delirious.

The way Dong Kyeong took the news was also very interesting. So this means she’ll most likely die at the end of the drama unless we encounter some form of ‘miracle.’ That’s a bold idea.

This character seems a bit different than what I am used to seeing from Park Bo Young but I am so here for it.

The casting

Can I just say I missed SEO IN GUK A LOT? CAN I?

When I saw his face I was like ‘man, where have you been? Dude, we missed you’

Seo In Guk is seriously so charming, he pulls off the character so well and I like his chemistry with Park Bo Young so far, I sense ease in their interactions which I like.

His face alone is enough, gosh darn it. I just hope that this drama won’t disappoint.

I’ve also seriously missed Park Bo Young, her last project wasn’t my favorite and I still get feedback/backlash for my thoughts on it which I ;still; stand by. She’s taken some time off and she’s now back which is all that matters.

While in her previous characters, she’s taken on more chatty lively characters, she appears more of a ‘sad’ grownup in this one. I am so happy to see her and see a new side of her acting too.

Lee Soo Hyuk was also introduced this episode albeit for like 3 minutes, I can’t wait for the introduction of the rest, Kang Tae Oh and Shin Do Hyun.

This casting happens to be one of my favorites of a 2021 drama thus far.

I have mixed feelings on “Doom at Your Service” episode 1, but I know its too early to judge it too much because the theme is a bit experimental and it takes a while to judge until we get proper exposition and decide accordingly. I’ll give it until episode 6 to judge whether the choppy scene cuts were intentional or not.

I’ll also publish “Doom at Your Service” episode 2 review as soon as it comes out tomorrow. And depending on how much I enjoy the drama, I might put out an episode-by-episode review, we shall see.
