Veteran Actress Youn Yuh Jung remarks during “Pachinko” press conference gained attention.
Apple TV+ upcoming drama “Pachinko” has recently held an online press conference and during it, the veteran actress revealed she was asked to audition for the show.
Youn Yuh Jung said,
“It didn’t make sense for me to audition when I’ve been acting for decades.”
Youn Yuh Jung has over 50 years of acting experience under her belt and she’s considered one of the top Korean actresses of her time. She further explained that she knew Americans would audition for shows but as a Korean, she was unfamiliar with it.
Youn Yuh Jung elaborated on her stance, she said,
“If I had auditioned for the role and they said ‘we don’t think you’re suitable for it,’ then our industry would say things like ‘Youn failed the audition.’ I wouldn’t lose my 50-year career for this one role, so I threw out the eight scripts I received by my front door.”
Youn Yuh Jung says that later they told her thats not the case and asked her to participate in the drama and she agreed to do it.
On the other hand, despite his 17 years long acting career, Lee Min Ho auditioned for the show. He went for a total of 4 auditions.
“Pachinko” airs on March 25.
