Times Korean Actors Saved People’s Lives

Throughout the years, numerous Korean celebrities have captured our hearts with their talent and charisma, but some have gone above and beyond by showing their heroism off-screen as well. These stars have stepped up in critical moments, saving lives and demonstrating courage and compassion.

Today, we’ll be checking out several instances where Korean celebrities helped save someone’s life.

Jang Dong Yoon

Beloved actor Jang Dong Yoon had an unusual start to his career. He was photographed receiving a commendation from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency making it his 1^st official TV appearance before his official actor debut.

Jang Dong Yoon had helped catch a robber in 2015 (at the age of 23), he was inside a convenience store with his college friends and encountered a robber who had a lethal weapon his his hands making threatening remarks towards the poor store clerk whose life was in danger.

The actor devised a plan along with his friends and managed to get the culprit arrested leading to his famous photo receiving a commendation for his heroic act.

He ended up receiving an offer from his current agency, Clover Company which marked his start in the acting industry.

Nam Yoon Su

The most recent story on this list is that of Nam Yoon Su’s kind actions. The rising actor helped save his father’s life donating a kidney.

Recently, it was reported that Actor Nam Yoon Su donated a kidney to his father, the news went nearly unnoticed at first.  Nam Yoon Su underwent a kidney transplant surgery on June 19th to donate a kidney to his father. Both Nam Yoon Su and his father, who received the kidney, have recovered quickly and have been discharged from the hospital.

Nam Yoon Su’s dedication to this is particularly touching as he halted all his activities earlier this year to prepare for the transplant surgery.

After the news went viral, the actor took to his Instagram to react to the overwhelming attention and praise he received, he said, “

What I perceived as merely a duty has now, with the passage of time and a mix of small resolutions and overwhelming emotions, turned into a precious gift for my father, bringing him joyful days. I am also immensely grateful to the fans who first read the news in the articles and offered their encouragement, as well as the hospital staff who warmly welcomed us over the past few days.

Lee Yi Kyung

Lee Yi Kyung helped save a man from attempting suicide back in 2020 and his heroic act belatedly made headlines and gained him attention.

The situation happened back in March of 2020, various media outlets began reporting on how Actor Lee Yi Kyung was involved in the rescue and aid of a man who attempted suicide on Hannam Bridge. 

The incident had reportedly taken place on the morning of March 19, an intoxicated individual attempted to throw themself in front of a moving truck on Hannam Bridge. The truck saw the man and was able to avoid disaster, however, the individual continued to walk on the path of other moving vehicles.

One witness at the scene reported that a truck driver got out of his truck to hold the person back, Lee Yi Kyung’s car was behind him so he also got out to help with the issue, he held the intoxicated individual back from causing more danger to himself and others. He held on to him for a long time before help arrived at the scene while the man kept trying to either jump at moving cars or jump off the bridge.

Lee Yi Kyung had reportedly also took off his coat for the man who was shivering, the witness commended Lee Yi Kyung’s kind actions that helped save the man’s life. Police later arrived at the scene and took the man to safety.

And it turns out that Lee Yi Kyung’s agency had no idea about what had happened and after checking with Lee Yi Kyung found out the story was indeed true. The agency told YTN that he ran out to help because the situation looked dangerous.

Kim Hyun Joong

Kim Hyun Joong had also made headlines in the past for helping someone out!

In late August of 2020, Korean news outlets reported that during his visit to a Japanese restaurant the week prior, he ended up performing first aid on a 47-year-old chef (Mr. Oh) who fell unconscious; he helped him regain consciousness and directed the staff to call 911.

CCTV footage from the restaurant showed Kim Hyun Joong administrating emergency care immediately, he supported the man’s head to free his airway, rubbed his chest, and remained by his side while waiting for help to arrive, when the paramedics arrived, he stayed there to describe exactly what happened in details.

The staff didn’t have an idea about the identity of the man who saved the chef’s life, and when they found out that it was Kim Hyun Joong, they reported it to the media and expressed their gratitude for helping save the chef’s life.

A source from Kim Hyun Joong’s agency told news outlets, ‘he did what he had to do.’
