“School 2020” will not be airing on KBS!

A couple of days ago, a Korean news outlet reported that after various discussions, KBS has decided not to continue with the next installment of the hugely popular School series. However, KBS issued a statement denying this and stating that they were still discussing the subject from various angles and that nothing has been decided yet.

However, less than two days later, KBS issued a statement to the press announcing,

“After various discussions, it was decided that KBS will not broadcast ‘School 2020.’”

This comes after the casting controversy revolving around actress Ahn Seo Hyun and the production team. The actress was initially considered for the lead female role but all of a sudden, news of her withdrawal was posted and it caused a lot of confusion among fans who had been anticipating her appearance on the drama. Instead, it was reported that Kim Sae Ron was instead being considered for the leading role.

The only confirmed cast member was former X1 member Kim Yohan who was set to take on his first leading role ever on TV.

The decision is shocking because KBS is the channel that created the School series and the one who has always been producing it since its inception. The series grew a following domestically and overseas and is known for launching rookie actors careers to stardom.

Following KBS’s short statement, the production team behind the drama also issued a response that’s giving fans a glimpse of hope.

The production team of “School 2020” told OSEN,

“’School 2020’ is being discussed on various ways, and the production is scheduled to be carried out without a hitch.”

They also told the news outlet that the cast will be finalized as soon as possible and the production will be carried out at the earliest. “School 2020” was originally scheduled to air in August of 2020, it is unknown which network will air the drama.

Stay tuned for updates.
