Two days ago, The main cast of the highly anticipated upcoming drama “YOUTH” was released. “YOUTH” is based on the BTS universe and is a collaboration with Big Hit Entertainment and Chorokbaem Media.
As stated in the press release, the drama characters will use BTS members’ real names; however, they’ll have fictional storylines unrelated to the actual BTS members. The drama will focus on the story of seven boys who meet for the first time and their growth journey together.
Despite what was supposed to be happy news, many k-fans didn’t like the announcement and thought the use of the real BTS members names was unnecessary.
On various social media platforms, k-fans expressed their anger with Big Hit for using BTS members real names, many accused them of trying to milk the name BTS over and over again for the sake of profit, not considering what kind of effect this might have on BTS.
The issue for k-fans comes with the attachment the BTS members names shall have to the fictional characters, they’re afraid that anti-fans will try to use the fictional narratives to criticize the BTS members blurring the line even more between whether they’re talking about the real members or the fictional members in the drama. There is also an issue that will likely face the drama, the average netizen might not be able to differentiate or tell the difference, there could be a huge misunderstanding that forms because of this leading many non-fans to believe that the fictional stories are the real life stories of the BTS members.
Here are some of k-fans comments on a popular community post regarding the upcoming drama,
- What a crazy company, please stop
- It would’ve been 10 million times better had it been done by the members
- ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ What a mess, muggles might think this is real
