The Blue Dragon Series Awards, Specifically Launched To Award Original Streaming K-Content, To Air In July
The Blue Dragon Series Awards is coming this July!
The Blue Dragon Series Awards is an awards ceremony that attempted to recognize original streaming series for the first time in South Korea in 2022.
Original production investment content is boldly taking on challenges to adapt to the changing video market. The Blue Dragon Series Awards, in recognition of this trend, expanded the traditional award ceremony that focused on dramas and variety shows produced by broadcasting companies to a specialized/exclusive award ceremony targeting streaming services available in Korea.
The plan is to create a festival where leading actors and entertainers who lead Korean dramas and variety shows can come together to enjoy.
From Netflix, Disney+ (Plus), Apple TV+ (Plus), Watcha, Wavve, KakaoTV, Coupang Play, to TVing (in alphabetical order), the second Blue Dragon Series Awards, which focuses on domestic dramas, variety shows, and educational programs, will present a total of 16 awards, including the “Grand Prize,” Drama Section awards such as “Best Drama,” “Best Actor/Actress,” “Best Supporting Actor/Actress,” “Best New Actor/Actress,” and Entertainment/Educational Section awards such as “Best Program,” “Best Male/Female Entertainer,” “Best New Male/Female Entertainer,” “Popularity Award,” “OST Popularity Award,” and “Why Not Award.”
In this year’s award ceremony, the Grand Prize, OST Popularity Award, and Why Not Award were newly established.
The Grand Prize will be awarded to individuals (works) who have contributed to the development of content in both dramas and variety shows. The OST Popularity Award will be given to a song sung by a Korean singer among the songs that were inserted into the nominated works and enhanced the immersion of the work. The Why Not Award is a prize given to artists or works that create changes in streaming services through unique ideas and challenges.
Voting for the Drama Section awards will be available on the Blue Dragon Series Awards website from June 8th (Thursday) to June 25th (Sunday).
The second Blue Dragon Series Awards will take place on July 19th (Wednesday) at 8:30 PM at Incheon Paradise City Hotel and will be broadcast live on KBS 2TV.
