South Korea To Produce Korean Version Of America’s Successful Drama “Breaking Bad”

South korea will produce a remake of “Breaking Bad,” one of the best American dramas of all time.

On February 14, Producer Park Bum Hoon of production company JPE&M said in a telephone interview with Hankyoreh, “We are working with Sony Pictures, which has the copyright of ‘Breaking Bad,’ to produce a Korean version of the remake. Director Lee Chang Yeol will direct Season 1.”

The season 1 script has been completed over two years, and it is planned until season 4. The online video service (OTT) platform to be aired with the cast has not been decided yet. The goal is to air season 1 as early as this time next year.

“Breaking Bad” tells the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a genius chemist who lived as an ordinary chemistry teacher, after finding out he has cancer and a limited time and he joins a drug manufacturing to leave a legacy to his family and set foot in the world of crime. It aired from 2008 to 2013 on AMC and received 16 Emmy Awards, the most prestigious in the broadcasting industry. It maintains its highest rating ever at 9.5 out of 10 on IMDB, a film and drama information site. The spin-off series “Better Cole Saul,” featuring the lawyer character Saul Goodman, was also produced and received favorable reviews.

Director Lee Chang Yeol, who will direct the Korean version, is the director of the movie “You, Igari,” which will be released on March 8. The movie tells the story of the desperate love of an elderly couple who have been living together for 30 years but their daily lives collapse when the wife suffers from an incurable disease. It has received 51 awards at various international film festivals, drawing attention.
