Actors Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun have talked about their highly anticipated upcoming drama “The Glory” at the press conference.
On December 20, a press conference for the Netflix original series “The Glory” was held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul Grand Ballroom in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. Actors Song Hye Kyo, Lee Do Hyun, Lim Ji Yeon, Yeom Hye Ran, Park Sung Hoon, Jung Sung Il, writer Kim Eun Sook, and director Ahn Gil Ho attended to talk about their drama.
The Netflix series “The Glory” depicts the story of a woman whose soul was shattered by violence in childhood and the desperate revenge that she has planned for her entire life. She seeks to take revenge on the bullies who ruined her life.
Song Hye Kyo plays the role of Moon Dong Eun, who manages to shake herself from the brink of making a suicide attempt and risks her life to plot a perfect revenge plan after suffering from dreadful violence in high school. Lee Do Hyun takes on the role of Joo Yeo Jung, a helper on Moon Dong’s side.
On this day, Song Hye Kyo said,
The writer and director of this drama were the first reasons for choosing this drama.
And when I read the script, I thought it was a genre and character that I really wanted to try. I’ve always been very hungry for a role like this, and I thought I finally found it. My heart ached so much as I read the script, and I was blank for a while. I wondered how this could happen. It was expressed so perfectly that I thought good work would come out if I did my well.”
She talked about trying a new genre with this work, sharing,
“I’ve done a lot of melodrama in the past, so my image shown in ‘The Glory’ may seem familiar, even though it was very difficult, I really enjoyed acting on this work.”
Song Hye Kyo explained the character she is playing in the drama by adding,
She is a woman with many wounds and a shattered soul due to school violence.
Not even the school, the parents, or the police, no one protected her. Then she tries to attempt suicide, but after the thought, ‘Why should I die alone?’ she plans a desperate revenge with the hope that those who bullied her will be punished.
It was hard acting the role since I had to play the role of a victim. Even though Dong Eun received pain and wounds defenselessly, I wanted to show a solid and strong appearance rather than a weak appearance because she is a person who desperately avenges the perpetrators for a long time after that.”
Director Ahn Gil Ho expressing his faith in Song Hye Kyo, commented,
Character Moon Dong is weak, but also has a strong side. There are not many actors who have strong as well as weak appearances, and I thought Song Hye Kyo is the only one who can play this role from the beginning. Fortunately, she agreed to work on the drama, and now that I think about it, I think her synchronization rate with Moon Dong Eun is more than 120%.”
In response, writer Kim Eun Sook said,
I will give 121% in addition to the synchronization rate. There is no trace of Song Hye Kyo I saw in private in the scenes, it was all Moon Dong Eun in all the scenes. I was so happy and liked it. I answer Song Hye Kyo’s phone call before it rings twice.”
They also talked about Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun‘s chemistry in the drama.
Director Ahn Gil Ho said, “When the two met, there was a bright side, but there was also a melancholy side to it, so I made it a point that I wanted to show them well without missing them.”
In particular, when MC Park Kyung Rim said that he heard that Lee Do Hyun acted while considering Dong Eun as his pet, he said, “No one can play Dong Eun better than senior Song Hye Kyo. I’m taking care of my pet alone even if I got hit I thought let’s talk with her. I’m sorry” while repeatedly bowed to Song Hye Kyo making everyone laugh.
Song Hye Kyo, who was listening to this, smiled, saying, “(Lee Do Hyun’s pet dog) Gaeul is so cute.”
“The Glory” will be released on December 30.
