Oh Young Soo has taken home his first Golden Globes Award and made history in the process.

On January 9, the 79th Golden Globe Awards took place in Beverley Hills, California. Due to the ongoing boycott, the award show was held privately without an audience, and the winners were announced through the Golden Globes’ official homepage and social media accounts.

The boycott was a result of the allegations of corruption and lack of diversity that spread about the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the organization that chooses the winners. As a result, a boycott has been called upon Hollywood stars and many top actors and names have stated they won’t be attending the show. Studios like Netflix, Amazon, and Warner Media have announced that they will not participate in the Golden Globes or work with the HFPA until reforms were put in place. NBC, which broadcasted the show, will not be airing it this year.

“Squid Game” was nominated for many awards including Lee Jung Jae who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama, Oh Yeong Su was nominated for Best Supporting Actor – Television and Best Television Series – Drama.

Oh Yeong Su ended up taking home the award becoming the first ever Korean actor to win a Golden Globes.

Congratulations to Oh Young Soo on his historic win!
