Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae And More Join Park Bo Gum And Kim So Hyun’s Upcoming Drama
JTBC’s new drama “Good Boy” has officially announced the casting of actors Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Seok.
“Good Boy” (written by Lee Dae Il, directed by Shim Na Yeon) is a comic action investigation drama about medalists who become police officers through special recruitment. Instead of medals, they wear police badges around their necks and fight against an unscrupulous and unfair world. The drama is the new project of director Shim Na Yeon, who was loved for her sensuous direction in “Monster,” which won the Best Drama Award in the TV category at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards, and “The Good Bad Mother,” which captured both quality and popularity. Writer Lee Dae Il, known for differentiated genre works such as “Life on Mars” and “Advisor” series, joins forces with her. The lineup is further enhanced by the inclusion of renowned actors like Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Seok. This combination of the production team and cast showcases the ambition of JTBC’s anticipated project.
First, Park Bo Gum plays the role of Yoon Dong Joo, a patrol officer in the violent special team who becomes a police officer through the special recruitment of medalists after 11 years. Dong Joo, who once won a gold medal in boxing, now lives a second life as a police officer after falling from glory due to a single incident. Despite being temporarily frozen in an unfamiliar world, his dormant fighter instinct awakens in a world filled with unscrupulousness and unfairness, leading him to throw himself into justice without any calculation.
Kim So Hyun transforms into Ji Han Na, a shooting gold medalist and sergeant in the violent special team. Known as the “shooting goddess” during her athlete days for her outstanding beauty, Han Na had celebrity-like popularity but also faced many anti-fans and misunderstandings. After suddenly retiring, she fulfills her dream of becoming a police officer like her father. Now, her gun targets ruthless villains instead of shooting targets.
Oh Jung Se will play the role of Min Ju Young, a seventh-grade customs officer at the Customs Office who received a commendation from the Commissioner for his diligent and sincere work performance. Though he appears to be a diligent civil servant, there is another side to Ju Young. During the day, he hides his desires with a kind smile and plain suit, but at night, he becomes an unrestrained shadow of evil that dominates Inseong City.
Lee Sang Yi takes on the role of Kim Jong Hyun, a sergeant in the violent special team who was a silver medalist in fencing but became a police officer due to an injury. Jong Hyun, a diligent and persistent character, graduated from the police academy as the top student and joined the Internal Affairs Division. Though he thought he would never hold a sword again, he joins the violent special team, displaying his brilliant fencing skills once more.
Heo Sung Tae plays the role of Ko Man Sik, a bronze medalist in wrestling and the team leader of the violent special team. Despite having less stamina and skill than others during his athlete days, Man Sik rose through sheer persistence and was better at enduring than defeating. This background significantly aids his police duties. With a nonchalant face and excellent lying skills, he contemplates ways to win without using deception or stamina and has a keen sense of detecting danger. Though he may not seem trustworthy as the team leader who formed the medalist special recruitment violent special team, he becomes a reliable support for the team members.
Lastly, Tae Won Seok wears the uniform of Shin Jae Hong, a bronze medalist in discus throw and sergeant in the violent special team. Despite achieving the feat of winning the first bronze medal in discus throw as a Korean, Jae Hong joined the police special recruitment due to financial needs. Contrary to his large build and intense appearance, he is a warm-hearted man with a wife and two sons, and he is delicate and gentle. He joins the special team to secure promotion points solely for his family.
The production team stated, “In late 2024, a refreshing and hot drama that will break the stifling and cold reality will come to the home screen. Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Seok will show the best acting, maximizing the ‘good’ synergy. We ask for a lot of expectations from the viewers.”
“Good Boy” will be broadcast on JTBC in the second half of the year.
