Netflix’s series “Black Knight” responded to allegations of plagiarism regarding the Japanese game ‘Death Stranding’.

On the 16th, a Netflix representative clarified to media outlets, “‘“Black Knight” is a series based on the webtoon of the same name by author Lee Yoon Gyun, which began serialization in 2016.”

After “Black Knight” was released worldwide on the 12th, some Japanese internet users claimed that the series had similarities to the game ‘Death Stranding’ by Kojima Productions, sparking a debate.

However, ‘Death Stranding’ is a game released by Kojima Productions in 2019, while the webtoon “Black Knight” has been serialized since 2016. Therefore, Netflix explains that it cannot be considered plagiarism.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s “Black Knight” depicts a future Korean Peninsula where extreme air pollution makes it impossible to survive without an oxygen respirator. The story revolves around legendary delivery driver 5-8 (played by Kim Woo Bin) and refugee Sawol (played by Kang You Seok) as they confront the Cheonmyeong Group, which dominates the new world.

The film director Cho Ui-seok, who garnered 7.14 million and 5.5 million viewers with the movies ‘Master’ and ‘Cold Eyes,’ respectively, took on the role of screenwriter and director.
