Netflix has reportedly sent an official letter to Ace Maker, an investment company, regarding the movie “The Match” starring Lee Byung Hun and Yoo Ah In, stating that the issue of Yoo Ah In is subject to contract termination, and Netflix’s side has finally addressed the reports.

According to the film industry on March 21st, Netflix sent an official letter to Ace Maker when Yoo Ah In’s habitual use of propofol became a public issue last month and related news poured in. Netflix initially planned to purchase the movie “The Match” invested by Ace Maker and release it as an original film in the first quarter of this year.

It is rumored that this official document is not an immediate contract termination procedure, but rather content about whether they are aware of the current situation and what plans they have. It is speculated that the two sides exchanged opinions that the police investigation into the Yoo Ah In issue has not yet been completed, but is ongoing, so they will wait and see the situation until the results of the investigation come out.

However, as the situation became serious, with Yoo Ah In’s issue being plastered in the media every day and fans showing signs of boycotting, Netflix came up with a countermeasure. Netflix has the most works related to Yoo Ah In, including not only “The Match”, but also the original series “The Last Fool” and “Hellbound 2”. Accordingly, Netflix made the decision to edit out Yoo Ah In as much as possible in “The Last Fool”, while casting Kim Sung Chul in place of Yoo Ah In in “Hellbound 2”.

In response to the reports, Netflix said, “nothing has been determined in this regard yet.”

It is still unclear whether Netflix and “The Match” will actually terminate the contract due to Yoo Ah In’s issue. This is because even if the police announce the results of the investigation, it will take a long time for the court to decide what kind of ruling will be made after the prosecution’s indictment. In addition, if Netflix demands the termination of the contract, a legal battle with Ace Maker will become inevitable, and there is a high possibility that it will lead to another legal battle between Ace Maker and Yoo Ah In. In that case, it will not only give a fatal blow to the movie, but it will not be easy because it is highly likely to adversely affect Netflix’s K-content business. As the movie “High Five” starring Yoo Ah In is also closely watching the results of the police investigation and Netflix’s response.

“The Match” is a movie depicting the famous match between Jo Hoon Hyeon, the giant of Korean Baduk, and Lee Chang Ho. In the end, the fate of “The Match” is expected to depend on the results of the police investigation.

Yoo Ah In is scheduled to appear at the police on March 24th.

  1. I’m little disturbed by the above statements. Movies that are shown on Netflix have US actors and performers who have been charged with drug possession. Do we have a double standard?

  2. Yoo Ah In is one of South Korea’s finest actors. He is dealing with alot. The drug he is using is used acrossed the world for sleeping disorders. And why do South Korean people only decide what will be shown. I am an Australian and watched over 130 series. I love them and many of my friends have joined me. Don’t ruin a man’s life because he is trying to cope.
