Actor Kim Byung Chul expressed his thoughts on playing the role of a cheating husband and a father while being unmarried!

Kim Byung Chul delivered a remarkable performance as Seo In-ho, the chief of the colorectal surgery department, in the recently concluded JTBC drama “Doctor Cha.”

“Doctor Cha” portrays the life of Cha Jung-sook (played by Um Jung Hwa), who transitions from being a housewife of 20 years to a first-year resident, and her journey to mend her broken life. Kim Byung Chul portrayed the character of Seo In-ho, Cha Jung-sook’s “bad husband,” with charisma and received praise for his portrayal.

Through his role in the drama, Kim Byung Chul shared his thoughts on what he gained from the experience, stating, “As an actor, I had the experience of pioneering the rom-com (romantic comedy) genre. Although it may be challenging to directly connect negative roles with rom-com, I think it opened up the possibility of finding cuteness in characters that resemble a rom-com wasteland. I consider it as expanding my range.”

Born in 1974 and currently 50 years old, Kim Byung Chul, despite being unmarried, took on the role of a father in the drama. Regarding this, he expressed, “To portray infidelity, there needs to be a family environment, but since I don’t have a family environment, I had to fill it in with indirect experiences and imagination. In that state, I also had to think about the setting of infidelity. It wasn’t easy.”

He went on to describe the challenges of acting, saying, “Even when acting, senior actor Um Jung Hwa is a positive and likable person, but Seo In-ho reacts differently when he sees Cha Jung-sook. I had to treat Cha Jung-sook harshly. It was difficult for me to act in a way that was completely different from how I perceived Um Jung Hwa.”

Looking ahead, Kim Byung Chul mentioned that he would like to try the melodrama genre. He stated, “Wouldn’t it be interesting to do middle-aged rom-com? I think there are people who want to see such dramas. I believe there is demand for it, so I am prepared to supply it.”
