JTBC has issued an apology for controversial scenes in its newest drama “Insider.”

Recently, “Insider” has come under fire after its first episode aired. The first episode shows a gambling site at a temple. It also portrays Buddhist monks gambling large amounts of money with one of them saying a Buddhist chant while gambling. The scene runs for a long period taking up to 15 minutes of the drama’s run time.

As a result, The Korean Conference of Religions for Peace issued a statement criticizing JTBC and the drama.

The Conference asked JTBC and the drama to issue an apology as they believe the scenes ‘smear the religion of Buddhism.’ They also asked for the scenes to be deleted from VOD services and for future scenes broadcasting to be suspended.

Buddhism is considered a major religion in Korea and its holidays are widely observed.

“Insider” stars Kang Ha Neul and Lee Yoo Young and is an action-suspense drama that tells the story of Kim Yo Han, a judicial trainee who experiences a crisis while working undercover for an investigation. This leads him to become a prisoner. He ends up struggling to obtain a hand of cards that could change his fate.
