IU was rumored to be getting paid a record-breaking amount for upcoming drama “I Was Fooled.”
It was reported that singer IU received a fee of 500 million won [380,000 USD] per episode for her appearance in the Netflix original series “I Was Fooled.” However, IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, clarified the rumors on the 6th, saying, “It is not true that IU received 500 million won per episode for her appearance in ‘I was Fooled.’”
In particular, media outlets reported that the production cost is unprecedented. The industry’s evaluation is that it is similar to or exceeds the production cost of “Arthdal Chronicles,” which is said to be in the 50-60 billion won range [$38,000,00 to $45,600,00]. As it is shot in Jeju, the cost of building sets and post-production such as CG (computer graphics) will also be significant. The fees for actors, writers, and directors are also said to be unprecedented.
One media outlet then reported that the combined appearance fee per episode for IU and Park Bo Gum is more than 500 million. However, a representative explained that it did not exceed 1 billion won. Both are planning to focus on filming the drama this year. IU has promotional schedules for the movie “Dream,” but she will focus on this work after wrapping it up. Park Bo Gum will also concentrate on the filming of the drama except for individual schedules such as advertisements.
“I Was Fooled” is a drama that tells the adventure-filled life of Ae Soon and Gwan Sik, a ‘desperate rebel’ born in Jeju in the 1950s. IU plays the role of Ae Soon, a rebel, and Park Bo Gum plays Gwan Sik, a character with a tough personality.
“I Was Fooled” is written by Lim Sang Chun, who was loved for the dramas “Backy’s back”, “Fight My Way”, and “When the Camellia Blooms” and Director Kim Won Seok, who has been recognized for “Signal” and “My Mister” are raising expectations with this collaboration. The drama was also recently confirmed to be released via Netflix.
