Seasonal and part-time dramas, which were rare before, have recently appeared in large numbers and are gaining success.

‘There is no sequel as good as the previous one’ seems to be becoming an old saying. As the success of seasonal dramas continues, it is no longer the exclusive property of American dramas.

The recent tvN drama “Secret Forest” has even confirmed a spin-off following the end of season 2 in 2020.

“Secret Forest” received favorable reviews as a well-made drama when it aired in 2017, and season 2 was aired in 2020 based on the right to investigate the speculum. It recorded the highest audience rating of 9.4%.

In the “’Secret Forest” spin-off work, Jo Seung Woo and Bae Doona are not the main characters, but Lee Jun Hyeok, and the title is known as “Good or Bad Dong Jae”.

“Alchemy Of Souls 2: Light and Shadow” which ended in popularity last month, was aired as a second part and received great love.

Alchemy Of Souls” has a total of 30 episodes, and 20 episodes with one part aired first from June to August last year. The remaining 10 episodes were dealt with in part 2, which ended in January this year.

In particular, in “Alchemy Of Souls 2”, instead of Jung So Min, Go Yoon Jung took on the role of the female lead along with Lee Jae Wook and others. Go Yoon Jung’s chemistry with Lee Jae Wook also shined as she detailed Jin Bu Yeon (Naksu), who has a different charm from Jung So Min.

However, even though Go Yoon Jung’s appearance in “Alchemy Of Souls 2” was predicted, viewers’ voices of concern over the replacement of the female lead came out.

Contrary to concerns, however, despite the big issue of the replacement of the female main character, the drama ended with favorable reviews with a perfect ending and its highest rating of 9.7%. In addition, there are SBS “Poong The Joseon Psychiatrist 2” and TVing “Work Later, Drink Now 2”.

SBS “Taxi Driver 2”, which started its broadcast on the 17th, “Dr. Romantic 3”, “Arthdal Chronicles 2”, and “The First Responders 2” will return seasonally.

Based on the webtoon of the same name, the “Taxi Driver” series is based on the unprecedented concept of a taxi driver who hunts villains, from dynamic fun to exhilarating catharsis of good and punishing evil. It is a work that stands tall as an IP.

The ratings for the last episode of Season 1 of “Taxi Driver” recorded 16.6% in the metropolitan area, 15.3% nationwide, and 18%, the highest rating at the moment, and won first place in the weekly mini-series.

Dr. Romantic 3” is the third in the series and is scheduled to air on April 21.

“Dr. Romantic 3” is a drama depicting the story of a real doctor which takes place in a shabby local Doldam Hospital. Season 1 aired in 2016 and season 2 aired in 2020. It received great love, recording the highest viewer ratings of 27.6% and 27.1%, respectively. Along with Han Seok Kyu in Season 3, Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Sung Kyung, Kim Min Kae, So Joo Yeon, Byun Woo Min, and Yoon Bora confirmed their appearances.

“The First Responders” is a drama depicting the hottest team play between the police who catch criminals and the firefighters who catch fires and the hottest team play of those whose hearts beat for others. The final episode recorded the highest viewership rating of 12.3%, taking first place in the viewership ratings of the same time slot and Season 2 is about to begin in the second half of this year.

Various dramas like this are reaping success in the season system, and at the same time, it is difficult to find a long-breathed drama like before.

The reason why production crews choose season-based dramas is that they can get a clear effect in terms of viewership ratings and buzz while reducing risks through works that have proven popular.

The biggest advantage of the season system is that it can continue to expand the story while securing fixed viewers.

However, there are still areas that need improvement. The disadvantages of the season system are that it is unable to continue the popularity of the previous projects due to self-replication, on the contrary, breaking the flow of the play while trying new things, and having a big impact on the drama story depending on the actors’ contract conditions.
