“Itaewon Class” Webtoon Writer has spoken up about the end of the drama via his social media account.

While the ending of “Itaewon Class” was met with mostly positive feedback from international kdrama fans, Korean netizens weren’t very happy with the ending and called it ‘lacking,’ ‘boring,’ ‘dragging’ and more. Many k-netizens thought the drama ending could’ve been better.

On March 20 and before the finale of “Itaewon Class” aired, the webtoon writer took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the subject, he wrote,

“The production, the actors, everything was good.

The only lacking thing was me.

A year I spent with good people.

It was like a dream.

Thank you very much.

It’s time for us to part ways.

See you next time.”

The writer Jo Gwang Jin had previously also expressed his thoughts on his work at the press conference stating he felt ‘lots of regrets during some parts.’

What do you think of his statement? Did you like the ending of “Itaewon Class”?

My Personal Thoughts

Calling himself ‘lacking’ is a bit too harsh but he’s a rookie kdrama writer. This is his first EVER kdrama writing project so there were bound to be some mistakes here and there.

For 1 hour and 30 minutes, “Itaewon Class” finale definitely felt dragging to me and was boring at certain points. I’ve previously shared my thoughts on the second half of the drama, you can read it here, but basically, you could tell he was a rookie writer and some plot points here and there weren’t as good as they could’ve been especially in comparison to the first half of the drama which was considerably better in my opinion.

However, he shouldn’t beat himself too hard because of this. I do find it nice that he knows he needs practice here and there; it’s good to take some criticism and build on it, that’s how everyone evolves.

For somebody who is writing kdrama scripts for the first time, he did well. I don’t know if he’ll ever do another drama since he’s originally a webcomic writer, so I don’t know if he’ll go down that route but I would definitely check out any upcoming drama of his to see if he will improve.

Fighting!
