Han So Hee’s Mother Arrested For Allegedly Illegally Operating Gambling Dens, The Actress Only Found Out Through The News
Actress Han So Hee‘s mother has been arrested, this time on charges of operating an illegal gambling den.
The 50-year-old, identified as Shin, was taken into custody on September 3rd for allegedly running 12 illegal gambling parlors across Ulsan, Wonju, and other locations from 2021 until last month.
The customers reportedly charged game money on these gambling sites and engaged in games like baccarat. Shin has a prior record of being fined for similar offenses and has also faced multiple fraud accusations.
Later, Han So Hee’s agency issued a statement addressing the matter. Her agency, 9ato Entertainment, addressed the issue, stating, “The recent reports regarding actress Han So Hee’s mother involve personal matters that Han So Hee herself only learned about through the news. She is deeply distressed by this situation.”
The agency reiterated that the incident is entirely unrelated to Han So Hee, stressing that her mother acted independently. They also apologized for causing discomfort by sharing this personal matter rather than news related to Han So Hee’s work.
Back in 2020, a fraud controversy involving Han So Hee’s mother surfaced when it was revealed that she had disappeared with money from a traditional Korean savings club (Gye). Han So Hee addressed this by explaining that her parents had divorced when she was around five years old and that she was raised by her grandmother, with little contact with her mother.
Han So Hee also mentioned that she learned of her mother’s debts when she turned 20 and, out of filial duty, had tried to repay as much as she could. However, in 2022, another incident occurred where her mother borrowed money using a bank account under Han So Hee’s name, which had been opened when she was a minor. There was even a case of document forgery, leading to civil lawsuits, with the court ruling that Han So Hee was not responsible for these actions.
At the time, Han So Hee’s team emphasized that she has no intention of taking responsibility for these debts and expressed regret over the harm caused to those affected, hoping that such incidents would not recur.
