Actor Kang Ji Sub Revealed To Have Been A Part Of The Controversial Cult JMS, Says He Left A While Back
Actor Kang Ji Sub is suspected of being a member of JMS, but he declared that he left the organization five years ago.
In the recently released Netflix documentary “In The Name Of God: A Holy Betrayal,” the ugly truth about JMS founder Jung Myung-seok was revealed. Jung, who claims to be the messiah, is accused of habitually sexually assaulting followers.
On the online community, suspicions have arisen that actor Kang Ji Sub is a member of JMS. In 2012, Kang Ji Sub left a message on Jung Myung-seok’s birthday. His house was also shown a while back with a photo of Jesus that resembles that of JMS, as the cult is known for re-touching the picture of Jesus.
As a result, Kang Ji Sub himself made a statement. In a phone call with Yonhap News on the 12th, Kang said, “Around 1999 or 2000, when I was a college student, a JMS believer approached me on the street and asked if I wanted to study the Bible. I followed him with a pure heart and thought it was a regular church.” He explained, “I stopped attending JMS about 4 to 5 years ago because I felt that the atmosphere created by Jung Myung-seok, who elevates himself to a divine status, was strange.”
Regarding the post he made on Jung’s birthday and the Jesus picture in his closet, Kang said, “I probably didn’t write it that way back then because I believed in him at the time. I kept the Jesus picture in my heart as a symbol of my faith.” He also said that he was shocked to learn of Jung’s behavior in the Netflix special and added, “I only hope that there are no more victims.”
Kang Ji Sub, who was known as a devout Christian, has spoken openly about it in past interviews. He was also actively involved in overseas mission and volunteer work, and once said in an interview, “My ultimate goal is evangelism. I will work hard on the path of an actor to reach more people.”
Although he has actively denied any affiliation with JMS, a controversial religious group in Korea, the public finds it hard to believe.
Meanwhile, Kang Ji Sub debuted in 2005 with SBS drama “Be Strong, Geum-soon!” and recently appeared in the KBS2 drama “Vengeance of the Bride” which ended on the 9th.
