Gaon Chart Music Awards has been rebranded into the Circle Chart Music Awards, and the awards ceremony will be held on February 18 next year.
Korea’s representative popular music chart ‘Gaon Chart’ officially launched a global K-pop chart that collects K-pop data from around the world in partnership with global platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. The Gaon Chart Music Awards will meet global fans with a major rebranding under the new name, Circle Chart Music Awards.
In response to the increasing global demand for K-pop, the awards were reborn as an awards ceremony that all K-pop fans around the world can relate to, by selecting winners based on global K-pop chart data. The categories that determine the winners based on global K-pop chart data include the Artist of the Year Award, the Digital Newcomer Award, and the World Rookie of the Year Award.
In addition, the female/male solo and group singer of the year awards are newly established. In the category, the winners will be selected based on aggregated data reflecting the global K-pop chart and album chart data in a 50:50 ratio.
The name of the Style of the Year category was also changed. The “Gaon Chart Music Awards” has prepared an awards section for people working in the music industry for the first time. Among them, it is decided to expand the scope of the Style Award to Performance Director and Visual Director, respectively, in the Choreography and Stylist categories. It reflects the broadening of the field in the K-pop industry, where the visual part is important.
In addition, efforts to connect K-pop fandoms around the world as one and spread the good influence of K-pop continues. The awards ceremony will be held in Korea, but it can be watched worldwide at the same time through live online broadcasting.
In addition, the photo wall event, which was a sub-event of the awards ceremony, has been expanded to a red carpet event and will be broadcast live online so that K-pop fans around the world can enjoy it. Continuing from the last year, the ceremony will continue to deliver messages about environmental protection.
Circle Chart Music Awards 2022 will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at KSPO DOME, Olympic Park.
