Rapper NO:EL sentence has been finalized.

On October 14, the third division of the Supreme Court upheld a one-year prison sentence for NO:EL, who was charged with refusing to take a breathalyzer and assaulting a police officer.

Originally, his trial was held on February 25 of 2022 at the Seoul Central District Court hearing, the prosecution requested a 3-year sentence in prison since this isn’t the rapper’s first offense.

The incident happened on September 18 of 2021, NO:EL was driving his Mercedes-Benz car at the intersection of St. Mary’s hospital in Banpo-dong, Seoul, where he collided with another vehicle. At the time, he was driving without a license, he refused to take breathalyzer tests, and obstructed the execution of official duties. He was booked on those charges. After that, he posted an apology.

This isn’t the first time the rapper has found himself in trouble. He was previously indicted on charges of drunk driving and changing drivers after a car accident in 2020. He was sentenced to one year and six months in prison suspended to two years of probation. He had also been sent to prosecution for swearing and assaulting passer-bys in February of 2021.

Rapper NO:EL had been detained while the trial was ongoing and was released at the end of last month after his detention was revoked. Since the one-year sentence was confirmed, he was released on October 9 having it been 1 year since his arrest.

Rapper NO:EL gained fame after participating in “High School Rapper,” he’s the son of a known politician named Chang Je-won, an incumbent Member of the National Assembly from the United Future Party.
