The cast of “The Golden Spoon” talked about their upcoming drama at its press conference!

Recently, MBC’s newest Friday and Saturday drama “The Golden Spoon” cast Yook Sungjae, Lee Jong Won, Yeonwoo, and the director attended the press conference and talked about their new project. Unfortunately, Jung Chaeyeon missed the press conference due to her injury.

MBC’s new Friday and Saturday drama “The Golden Spoon” is based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name as a life-adventure story that changed fate with a friend born in a rich family through a golden spoon that comes to a child born in a poor family accidentally.

Director Song Hyun Wook said at the press conference of MBC’s “The Golden Spoon” held in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, “It starts with the question of whether the beggar who lived as a prince in the fairy tale “Prince and the Pauper” and returned to his original place was indeed happy.

He then added, “In a society where poor gets abandoned, mocked and the fate is determined by parents’ wealth, I tried to directly reveal individual desires without turning them around.”

He also pointed out the difference between the drama and the webtoon of the same name, which is the original work, saying, “In the webtoon, the changes take place in three months, three years, and 30 years, but we adapted it to one month, one year and 10 years, and considering the long journey of 16 episodes, we added extra characters that were not in the webtoon.”

Yook Sungjae will play the role of Lee Seung Cheon, a poor high school student who studies while stepping on his pride to make money. Lee Jong Won takes on the role of Hwang Tae Yong, the successor of Korea’s leading conglomerate Doshin Group.

This will mark Yook Sungjae’s first drama comeback following his military discharge.

Yook Sungjae expresses his thoughts about his first drama after serving in the military and why he picked it, he said,

Since this was the first project I chose after serving in the military, I poured out a lot of strength and passion into it. I’ve been mainly playing tomboy-like characters so far, so I wanted to show a heavy and serious side with this character and expand my acting range.”

Lee Jong Won, when asked about why he chose the drama, shared,

I watched the webtoon ‘The Golden Spoon’ when I was young, and when I received the script, I remembered the memories of reading it, and I fell in love at first sight when I saw the adaptation. I thought I could show various aspects by playing the two lives of Seung Cheon.”

As the female protagonist, Jung Chaeyeon plays Na Joo Hee, who loves Lee Seung Cheon but gets swayed by Hwang Tae Yong, and Yeonwoo plays Oh Yeo Jin, the incarnation due to her desire to become richer.

In addition, Choi Dae Chul and Han Chae Ah play Lee Seung Cheon’s parents Lee Chul and Jin Sun Hye respectively, while Choi Won Young and Son Yeo Eun play Hwang Tae Yong’s parents Hwang Hyun Do and Seo Young Shin.

Han Chae Ah explained her character in the drama, “In the drama, my family wants to run away because Seung Cheon is having a hard time due to poverty, but my role, Jin Sun Hye, is a powerful and attractive character that provides love and happiness to her son enough to make him return.”

Choi Won Young commented, “When I saw the script, I thought there would be enough room for us to think about precious things in our lives through this story,” and Son Yeo Eun also added, “I waited for the script to deliver a great message, not just the aspect of fun.”

The drama will premiere at 9:45 p.m. on September 23.
