Singer and actor Park Yoo Chun applied to cancel the court’s decision to temporarily ban domestic broadcasting and entertainment activities, but it was dismissed leading to his upcoming movie not being broadcast.

According to the legal community, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Agreement Department 50 (Chief Judge Song Kyung Geun) rejected Park Yoo Chun’s application for the “cancellation of a ruling banning broadcasting appearances and entertainment activities.” The court said, “Park Yoo Chun’s claim for damages due to violation of the exclusive contract and the claim for the prohibition of broadcasting and entertainment activities are the same basis. There is no reason to deem the change to be inappropriate or abuse of rights.

Yesperar, an entertainment agency that was entrusted with Park Yoo Chun’s management earlier, filed an injunction with the court in August last year, claiming that Park violated his exclusive contract and sought activities with a third party. The court accepted Yesperar’s claims and ordered, “Park Yoo Chun should not produce, promote, advertise, role business, appearance projects, or entertainment activities for third parties other than Yesperar until the original ruling is confirmed.”

Later, instead of filing a new lawsuit, Yesperar added to the same court to ban broadcast appearances and entertainment activities in the ongoing compensation suit against Park Yoo Chun. In response, Park Yoo Chun’s side applied to the court to cancel the injunction decision because Yesperar did not fulfill the court’s order to file a lawsuit on the main issue within the deadline, saying that such a method was illegal.

Meanwhile, Park Yoo Chun was arrested and indicted on charges of methamphetamine administration in 2019 and sentenced to 10 months in prison and two years of probation. Before being indicted, he held a press conference to announce his retirement from the entertainment industry, but reversed it and returned to broadcasting a year later. He was scheduled to return to the screen for the first time in five years with a new movie “Dedicated to Evil,” which will be released next month, but the court decision is expected to put a brake on it.
