One Of Korea’s longest and most prominent music shows is coming to an end.

On July 18, media outlets reported that “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketch Book” will be coming to an end as the show’s host Yoo Hee Yeol is set to leave the show.

In the report, its alleged that the host himself wanted to step down after facing a series of plagiarism controversies. It was also reported that the last episode of the show will be filmed on July 19.

Later, Yoo Hee Yeol’s agency confirmed the news by sharing his official statement to Twitter. The agency said the last episode will be filmed this week. The 600th episode will mark the last episode of the show.

He stated,

“First of all, I would like to once again sincerely apologize for causing you fatigue due to the controversies related to me for a long time. As the decision about my broadcasting activities was a part that needed time to prepare for many people including the production team with me. We kindly ask for your understanding of the delay. Looking at the countless situations that have been pouring in, I have been able to look back at myself from the beginning.”

He also directly addresses the plagiarism accusations, he wrote,

I have a hard time agreeing with the allegations of plagiarism that are being raised now. A lot of the suspicions that come up are each individual’s views and interpretations, but it’s difficult for me to accept. However, I will take a closer look at myself so that such a controversy does not happen again.”

He confirmed his last appearance will be the 600th episode.

KBS also confirmed the news in an official statement.

“Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketch Book” began airing back in April of 2009 and is known for being one of the biggest and longest-running late-night music shows in South Korea. It helped introduce Koreans to many musicians from all backgrounds and genres.

  1. M so sorry to hear of the show’s cancellation. I was a fan of the show for a long time and it introduced me to many Korean artists n musicians that I wouldn’t hv known of if not for their participation in the show. I stopped watching it ehen they ceased putting subtitles n translation for the songs featured. Wishing Yu Hui Yeol best of luck in his future undertakings n that he is able to weather n remain strong and resilient during this testing times for him.
