“Squid Game” Makes History Receiving 14 Emmy Nominations

Squid Game” has made history with its 14 Emmy nominations!

On July 12, the Emmy Awards officially revealed this year’s nominees and among them was Netflix’s hit show “Squid Game” which received 14 nominations.

“Squid Game” made history by being the first non-English language TV series at the Emmy Awards to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, it is competing against “Better Call Saul,” “Euphoria,” “Ozark,” “Severance,” “Stranger Things,” “Succession,” and “Yellowjackets.”

Furthermore, five stars of “Squid Game” also made history at this year’s Emmy Awards, becoming the first Korean actors to receive nominations in their respective categories.

Lee Jung Jae was nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Jung Ho Yeon was nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, while Park Hae Soo and Oh Young Soo are both up for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. And finally, Lee Yoo Mi was nominated for Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

“Squid Game” director Hwang Dong Hyuk was also nominated for both Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, becoming the first Korean director to receive nominations in these categories at the Emmy Awards.

“Squid Game” also earned other nominations including Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode, and Outstanding Stunt Performance.
