Lee Joon Gi is back at last with a new drama, “Again My Life” premiered this weekend, and here are my thoughts on it.

I must say, I liked the premiere, it was fun and it sounds promising.

Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.

“Again My Life” was on my list for a while now, Lee Joon Gi always chooses fun projects, they don’t always turn out to be the best but you always know its not because he’s not trying his best, some of the scripts he picks might become a bit slow in the middle but thats the case for a good chunk of kdramas but with this one, I could see it already.

“Again My Life” attempts to mix the fantasy element to justify the ‘rebirth’ of the character but you can also tell the screenwriters don’t want you to focus on that aspect a lot as well, we’ll see how it goes. It would be interesting to combine both things in a legal drama. The revelation that a death angel sort of just granted this person a chance at life again opens up room for so many questions, questions I don’t know if we’ll ever get the answer to.

“Again My Life” as a premiere was what you’d expect, I wasn’t blown away but I wasn’t disappointed either. Its just what you expect, its fun, its engaging and the stakes are high which keeps you locked in.

It will be very interesting to see how Hee Woo recruits these people to his side and I am glad we have many moving pieces already. I am also a bit skeptic here and there but I’ll keep most of my worries about the script to myself for now.

“Again My Life” is 16 episodes long and I already know it doesn’t need to be this long, I already embraced myself to expect stagnation in the plot. The drama is written by two people so maybe we’ll be able to sort of avoid that. The drama has done so well with its premiere episodes in terms of ratings and I am happy for its success so far, I hope it continues to do well.

Now onto something that is a nitpick of mine, its very subjective too. I am having a very difficult time picturing Joon Gi as a 21 year old man, its very difficult for me to buy that.

Joon Gi is 40 years old, he looks 40 years old. It doesn’t mean he’s ugly or old but he looks his age, which is not anything wrong. However, its so glaringly obvious that they just told a 40-year-old man to strap on a backpack and become a 21-year-old, the 19-year-old gap is just too much for me to ever fully buy into. Joon Gi has also lost weight over the years, so he looks his age. He’s aging so well and he looks fine as hell but he’s not 21 years old.

I get the screenwriters wanted the character to go back in time just enough to begin the master plan of taking Tae Seob down and I understand that casting a younger actor to play what would be a very important period is difficult, but as I said, I’m having difficulty buying into the premise.

Its almost laughable because he looks obviously considerably older than everyone around him. Not only him, but they also do the same with Jung Sang-Hoon’s character, this actor was born in 1976, like come on guys, for real? They look like older people part of a sting operation to infiltrate a college premise to investigate a crime or something.

They even poke fun at this in the 2nd episode, its so on the nose and not in a way I would find meta.

What I mean by what I said is this… it looks so out of place and I find myself laughing whenever I see Joon Gi trying to be 21 years old. He’s a great actor but…

Aside from that, I remain hopeful about whats to come. I really really hope we see a time jump soon to when he’s 30 because that would be easier for me to get into. I hope we don’t spend too much time in the college days but it appears to be whats happening. I hope I am wrong.

So these are my thoughts on “Again My Life” premiere, so what about you guys? did you like the episodes? let me know what you thought in the comment section below.

  1. Sorry, I don’t agree about Lee Joon Gi as a 21 year-old. While he does look older than 21, it’s still believable enough to not distract from the drama IMHO.
