Song Hye Kyo has recently sat down for an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she discussed her acting, her upcoming Netflix drama “The Glory” and more.

About a year ago, it was confirmed that Song Hye Kyo will be leading the upcoming drama “The Glory,” which tells the sad story of a high school student who dreamt of becoming an architect but had to drop out due to the severe bullying she’s experienced. Years later, the perpetrator gets married and has a child. Once the kid is in elementary school, the former victim becomes their homeroom teacher and begins to enact her revenge towards the perpetrator and the bystanders.

The drama is written by Kim Eun Sook who wrote the hit 2016 drama “Descendants of the Sun,” which Song Hye Kyo starred in.

About the drama Song Hye Kyo said,

“This drama is my first thriller and also first revenge drama. Since the production’s color and character are the opposite of what I’ve done until this point, I am excited to see the new expressions and emotions that will come out while acting.”

Song Hye Kyo also expressed her gratitude to the production who works hard and talked about how writer Kim Eun Sook and director Ahn Gil Ho are people she trusts and follows

Song Hye Kyo has been acting for a very long time but despite that she says she still feels nervous,

“I’ve never entered a production with the mindset of ‘you’ve always done this, you can do well.’ I’ve been acting for a long time but despite that I always feel nervous. Not only am I getting older but the characters I play are getting older like me. The characters must have matured as they got older and there must have been joys and sorrows they’ve experienced until this point.

I think I have to express that well, that’s why I think acting is getting harder and harder.”

My personal thoughts- written by Jass K.

I do feel for her, especially for actors who have received a lot of attention for their good looks, it must be difficult to sometimes accept that we’re getting older, especially if our age is closely related to our profession.

Despite that, I still feel that Song Hye Kyo hasn’t been experimental at all. The fact that she’s been acting for so long it is only now that she’s playing in a thriller drama is telling of what type of projects she’s been taking on.

With the massive shift that’s happening in the Korean entertainment industry and the fact that many upcoming young actors are so hella talented and way more experimental than their predecessors, it puts pressure on the older generation of actors and I can see it. This is not only about Hye Kyo but also many other actresses around her age or slightly older.

This is a pivotal moment in Song Hye Kyo’s career, she needs to show that she’s capable of playing different characters than what her audience is used to.

Wishing her all the best.
